hi mudhog,
Its very simple to upgrade your xboxhdd..
We even have a PDF tutorial for you to download which will help you..
Basically just download and burn the XBOXHQ AUTOINSTALLER DELUXE to a DVD-R or CDRW and boot in your xbox (with your retail hdd still in it)... Make sure it boots to the main menu.!
If it boots fine to the main menu then you know you are ready to upgrade to your NEW HDD!
1. Open your XBox
2. Remove standard Retail Xbox HDD.
3. Check the jumper settings on retail hdd and make sure you make the new hdd (120gb) match those settings. Normally Cable Select (CS)..
4. Now install the new hdd and plug in the IDE CABLE and POWER CABLE!
5. Boot the XBOX with your modchip activated and the XBOX HQ AID in the dvdrom drive ready to boot again.
6. Once the menu boots just follow the PDF tutorial.
All you want to do is: FORMAT/PARTITION new larger hdd.
(your 120gb hdd will only have a F:\ drive and no g:\ Drive..)
Then install M$ dashboard to your C: drive using the 'Installed Hacked Dashboards' option from the menu!
5. Boot the XBOX with your modchip activated and the XBOX HQ AID in the dvdrom drive ready to boot again.
i am only doing a soft mod i don't have any mod chips installed. i just want to soft mod the hard drive to play backup disks. i really appreciate the help

HI,
Ok.. Sorry i jumped the gun!
I didnt realise you have a softmod.. I will move this topic into the SoftMod Forums so our softmod admin 'sjohn' can reply! Dont forget to use the VIP SUPPORT TIcket system too.
I have never done a softmod so unforunately i cant help with that part.
There will be a small/slight difference in the methods im sure!
Please be aware that it is holiday time and some admins may be away!
I hope your enjoying the site,,

You will need your eeprom.bin file, you can get this through a backup in evox. You will also need to ftp your c and e drives to a folder on your hard drive.
Then you need a program called "xboxhdm 1.9" this is a bootable linux cd that you will put your c and e drives in, and also your eeprom, then you will create a bootable iso for your pc. Hook the hard drive up to your pc as the primary master, with no other hard drives on the chain. Then boot from this disk and follow the instructions. _________________

ok how do i get the eeprom.bin file? ok i ftp all of the c and e drive over to my pc into a folder use xboxhdm 1.9 to make a bootable cd take the 120 gig hd and put it in my pc as a master and its the only hd in the pc boot up with the cd and follow the instructions. then the hd is ready for the xbox? would i need to do anything else to the hd after it goes into the xbox or is it ready to use after that?

You could use a program called config magic to extract your eeprom, but if you have evox as your dash, you can go to settings then backup, and it will be in the backup folder where your dashboard is. But otherwise you have it right, just read the readme's in the xboxhdm fiolder, and you should be fine. Also once you do this, you will need to reboot, then lock the hard drive, that will make it only for your xbox, which is required for a softmod. _________________

Sorry, busy at work now, the real default dash is the msdash, if you softmodded it it could be any dash, depended on which one you chose, most go with evox though.
As far as the game saves go, I would go ahead and transfer them also. Just so you don't lose anything. _________________

First you need to softmod your xbox, then you need to ftp your info from the xbox to the pc, then you will be able to use a program called xboxhdm and you can create a new hard drive that will work fine in your xbox.
The first step is doing the softmod. _________________
