My box won't boot up to anything. It doesn't even boot the bios. The box get's power and the HDD whirrs like it's trying, but it doesn't boot up at all. Anyone know if there's a way to fix this without buying anything new?

It shows a black screen on the TV, that's it.
I hear no sounds in the TV, though I do hear the fans in the box and the HDD.
The LED does not blink, it just stays green.
The XBox does not automatically shut itself off. I can manually push the power button on it and will go off though. Also the DVD drive will not eject. The dvd drive is fine I took it out put it in my other xbox and it ejected and read the games fine. I tried the others put it in the broken one and same problem. by the way my xbox is unmodded to my knowledge and I get nothing no dash no sound.

This is a retail return I bought off e-bay as damaged.

Can anyone help me? Question

I hope you didn't pay much for it...

Look at the bottom of the case. Are the stickers over the screws broken? If they are, chances are it was an attempted mod. They might have wiped out the HDD or screwed the TSOP.

Are you trying to mod the system? If so, I would try botting it with a chip in to see if you can get that to work. If you can't, it's probably a severe issue, like water damage or somesuch. If it's anything other than a software issue, you're gonna have to buy something... possibly a different system.

Thanks slick_j_2002

It was opened but the seller told me just to look around. I am looking to purchase a mod chip now and try my luck with it. I was just wondering if buying a mod chip for it was smart considering it might be dead.

Well, it sounds like he tried to mod it. Without looking at the mobo it's hard to say whats happened. Who knows, maybe he took the eeprom off, maybe he tried a tsop flash...it's hard to say, but the fact that it's not booting up tells me you are better off finding a motherboard for it and going from there. If the bios was good, you would at least see the splash screen. You can take a HD out of an xbox, take out the dvd drive, and boot it and you will still get the green X showing.

Do yourself a favor, find out the version it is and just buy a new HD/Mobo combo, or a mobo and a large HD and mod chip.

Hopefully, you didn't pay more than $40.00 for it.

It seems to be a v 1.0 I am looking around for parts cheap but they are not that easy to find. I did pay $43 US for it thinking it was something easy like a bad DVD or power supply. I guess I learned my lesson. I already have a 160 gig harddrive for it. I was hoping to try my luck at a softmod but it doesnt sound like I can with this.
