Ok, so here's the deal. I had an Xbox with an Xecuter 2.3b LITE modchip, and everything was going great, until I killed my xbox. I'm overseas in the military, and the voltage is different here. Evidentally, my converter wasn't up to par, and it killed my xbox. I now have a new xbox, which is a 1.6. I ordered the SpiderChip for it, and it's on the way. I want to move my HD over to the new Xbox, I'm just curious to know what's going to happen when I try it. I'm guessing it's still locked to my old xbox, which is now inoperable. Is this going to be a problem? If so, is there a workaround? Thanks for the help!

That really sucks...I no longer have that mb...Does this mean that my HD is useless now, even though it has no physical damage?

Are you sure it's just not your PS that got cooked? 1.6 power supplies aren't that expensive. It would be worth the try to just see, unless of course you already did some testing and know for a fact that your mobo is shot.
There is a couple ways to try to get your locked HD unlocked.
One way I heard is to get an xbox that is not modded and has some music stored on the HD. Open up both machines. Take the locked HD that you wish to try to unlock out of the machine and place it on top of the DVD drive of the unmodded machine. Start playing some music off of the unmodded Xbox's HD. After about a minute of playing disconnect the IDE cable and wait until you get "Error 21". When you get that error, connect the IDE cable to the locked HD and it may unlock it for you. You can then put it in your newly modded machine and connect it to the IDE cable.
I have never personally tried that, but have read about it in a tutorial from llamma a while back.
Other than that, if you knew what was used to lock it you may be able to manually unlock it. If you used config magic, the typcial password is teamassembly I think. If you have a modded machine and an autoinstaller with config magic on it you may be able to get into it like that, but it's very hard to do.
I have heard of people having success. I just had a customer have his HD locked and his mobo took a dump. Luckily, he had a Xenium Ice mod chip and had his eeprom information backed up on it. I just restored the eeprom info to his new eeprom and bam, it worked. On a 1.6 though you will no longer be able to boot the retail bios.
I also did this on a 1.6 recently and it allowed me to boot the retail bios too...was very cool.
Good luck to you. One rule of thumb. Always keep your HD unlocked. You can always lock it if you want to game on XBL or use MS Bios for something.

Hi,
You will have to lock your XBOX HDD to access the MIRCOSOFT DASHBOARD with your modchip off where all your gamesave etc etc are and for USING XBOX LIVE of couse because you have to turn off your modchip!
You will get a ERROR CODE if you try to boot the Original M$ Dashboard without the locked hdd.. It will boot fine with modchip on but not off.
ahh dash not bios :p anyways i forgot the gamesaves are through the M$ dash. guess thats one reason to leave it locked

You can still get to your gamesaves via Xbox Saves Manager on your PC, and if I am not mistaken you can launch MS Dash right from the evox menu and access your saves.
I only lock my HD when I want to game on XBL.
If I need to get to MS Dash just for settings or something, I first unplug my network cable, just in to thwart any accidental XBL login, and then I select MS Dashboard from my evox menu.
From there it will boot your MS dash via the hacked bios.
