I know you guys get tired of this, but it has to be done. I've been checking out the whole xbox mod scene little by little over the past few weeks and I finally decided to take the plunge and get the chip and a new HD for my v1.0 xbox.

Today I got my Xenium Ice and installed it along with a 160GB HD. I also managed to set up the connection between my PC and Xbox. That's about as far as I've gotten.

I used the big beginner's tutorial during set up and when I tried to flash the retail bios it didn't work as described in the tutorial. I flash it, the system reboots, but it goes back to the Xenium OS rather than the original MS start up.

I can't even get a game to boot at this point, I'm stuck. Help a noob out please, I just wanna get my Xbox up and running. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I'm no expert at this, but I would think you'd want to flash the retail BIOS to your chip BEFORE you change HDDs. I could be wrong, but I think what happens is the TSOP tries to load the xboxdash, and it can't find it.

Did you transfer everything from your Xbox HDD to the new one? If so, maybe it's an issue with the EEPROM or something.

If I were you (and I kinda was at one point), I would check the ICE Guide by cap269, available at http://www.teamxodus.com. It has a detailed guide on how to upgrade your HDD.

Also, before you do anything more, try switching back to your old HDD and flashing the TSOP, then booting. See if you can get things started with the old HDD, then switch to the new one after stuff is up and running.

Ok, I went back to the old HDD and tried getting back on track with that and nothing, same results. I also tried restoring the eeprom (that I saved before) and that got me nowhere.

When I TSOP the retail bios it says it successfully does it, and when I go to launch it the system reboots, nothing comes on screen, then it reboots again, nothing, and then the power light flashes. Then I have to turn it off.

And cap269's guide is what I went by, step by step. I appreciate your help though.

Hey, no problem. I know how frustrating it is when everything should be working but it isn't... trust me.

Does it give you any error codes when you boot up the MS dash? Also, is it flashing red and green, or just green?

Lastly, a list of the specs on your system (version, chip, etc) would be helpful.

Don't give up on it, bud. It's worth it.

You don't need to have the original HD in to do the TSOP assignment, but it is a good habit to keep the retail HD in until you have your Xenium Ice flashed.

What choices do you have in your launch menu?

You should have:

Retail Kernel
Hacked Bios (replace hacked bios name with whatever you call your bios)

If you select Retail Kernel, it should take you to the MS dash (with the original HD in, or if you have copied the dash files to your new HD)
If you select hacked bios it should take you to your hacked dash if you have copied it to the HD.

If you dont have these selections, lets get you there.

First, we need to get your retail kernel set up.

At the launch menu, select Add Item.

Select TSOP. It should already be named Retail Kernel. Keep it that or rename to what you want. This selection is going to allow you to boot your xbox to the factory bios and disable the chip.

Once you are done with that, see if it works. If it does, we can then move on to flashing your hacked bios to the chip. Let me know where you stand and I or someone else will give you more help.
