OK heres the deal. I bought a brand new xbox a day shy of a week ago. my first xbox. I bought a Xenium ICE from my friend (he bought it but ended up not using it). I took a few hours last night installing it. I put it back together and it does the boot two times and FRAG thing thats so popular. The LED on the chip was red.

I have checked the soldering jobs, theyre clean. I did the pinheader installation, and I did the rewiring of the LPC port on the underside of the board. The D0 point I used was the one on top by the Xyclops chip.

The one thing i'm not sure about is I don't know if I got through all the Lacqer or wahtever is on the board. I used rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip.

I have tried taking all of the wires off AND the LPC port wire head thing. I couldnt get the wirehead off. I tried booting it up with the head and nothing else in there and I still get the FRAG. Did I mess the board up? beyond repair?

any input is appriciated. Thanks.

It's very possible that there is a damaged trace, it's hard to say. 1.6's can be a real bear sometimes. My only true frags have been 1.6's. I've done enough of them now where I haven't had one in a few months, but I still cringe when I open a machine and see that Xcalibur chip. Now if it isn't bad enough, there are 1.6b's floating around with cheap ram.

The 1.6b isn't your issue right now. Chances are there is a problem in the LPC area of the board. Your LFRAME connection is good, that is why you are getting the frag. If your LFRAME connection wasn't good, you would't get anything. The xbox would just boot up normal.

If you truly think you have covered all of your bases you can try to send the machine to someone to take a look at. Going at it anymore could seriously damage your board if you haven't already. I have done many repairs for members here and from my own site, but you can see if someone lives near you if you wish. I am in the US in the state of PA if you want me to take a look at it and install your chip I'd be more than happy to. My prices are very fair.

If your motherboard turns out to be damaged, you can purchase a new one. Do take note though. You must purchase a 1.6 mobo to go with your Power Supply. Also, your stock HD will be useless with the new mobo. I know, that sucks. You can find 1.6 mobo/HD combo's on Ebay and modding sites. The 1.6 is one of the cheaper sets since nobody wants them....lol. If you go with a different version you will also need a power supply to go with it.

Also, keep in mind. If you buy a 1.6 mobo/HD combo and install it there is a very very very good chance that when you hit the power button you will have nothing. This is another little trick MS is doing to prevent modding.

They used a very low tolerant stand by resistor in the 1.6 mobo. Just moving it to a different case will cause the resistor to blow in a large percentage of repairs. I have transferred or have installed 5 1.6 machines and so far every one of them have done it to me. Team Xodus has even wrote a manual called the 1.6 resurrection guide, so it is a HUGE problem.

Let me know what you end up doing with your machine. If you end up deciding to not repair it, maybe I can buy it from you. Or, if you need more advice on repairing yourself, feel free to ask. Hope it works out for you.

ah, damn it. I knew this would happen.

OK, well, so then it looks like its pretty much dead then? I don't want to mess with it any more than I have...look how far that got me.

And what about the fact that I took all the wires off of it and left the LPC pinheader in there and it still FRAGs? Does that mean its still connected to one of the points somehow? Or that my soldering has ruined another part on the board?

I do have this friend who bought an Xbox from somebody for 10 dollars, cause the DVD drive in it was bad. If i can get that from him would I be able to just put my drive from my 1.6 in there? I don't know what version it is, but I hope its not a 1.6. I wanted to just flash my TSOP on this thing but then I found out you couldnt on the new ones. I also have the solderless adapter for the Xenium. If I get that new one and its not a 1.5 or 1.6, i should be able to just screw the thing on and be done with it, right?

Otherwise....I think I might save my money up and get a Premodded One from that ModGod site in your signature...I've already sunk 200 dollars into this thing (that's a lot to me) and I don't want to risk anything more.

Yes, to both. It could just be some soldering causing the frag, or it could be that there is damage to the board.

Yes, the DVD Drive are interchangable. Let me know if you go that route, I'll buy your smoked xbox from you even without the dvd drive. I could use the controller ports, the case, and the power supply for other repairs.

Or, if you want, you can take the power supply, HD, and motherboard out of the one your buddy bought, and I can affix your mod chip to it correctly. Then put it all back together for you, or you can just buy a premod from me if you wish. I can give you some trade dollars on your busted machine. I am sure we can work something out. With that extra machine you mentioned, you have a lot of options. I know it sucks when you screw up a motherboard, you aren't the only one to ever do it so don't be so hard on yourself bud. I get at least six machines a week from people who have done the same thing.

All new machines are 1.6 versions. Also, solderless is easy and all, but you end up having to open your machine to retighten and realign the chip every once in a while. Soldering is the most reliable and professional install.

Let me know if you have any questions. Even if you decide to try again yourself, I'll do all I can for you. If you want to use my service, just feel free to visit my site or email me at sales@themodgod.com

I have done jobs for many members here and I am sure I can get you plenty of references if needed.
