Is there ANY way to invert the look controls for xHexen?
Be it a simple in-game command console entry, a Hex edit (pun!), or anything?
Or could anyone direct me somewhere or to someone that might know more about how to do this?

It seems like it should be such an easy fix.

Sorry, I know there's probably a better area to place this, but it seems pretty active here.

If not already done, run xHexen (Hexen), then exit the game.

It will create several files in the folder E:\TDATA\0a600852

The file named xhexen.cfg is the one of interest:

Download the file to your PC and open it in a text editor. Find the key_lookup and key_lookdown entries. Swap the assigned values on these two lines:

key_lookup 113 change to 122, and key_lookdown 122 change to 113.

Save the file, upload the updated configuration file to overwrite the current one.

Start the game. Look up and down using the right joystick are now inverted.

Additional WAD files can be downloaded from:

https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/hexen/

Some of the naming's a bit wonky - Undermountian titled wad is named black. Hmmm.

The WAD selector file, wads.cfg, in the xHexen installation folder allows you to select which of the WAD files to play. As provided at the emu xtras dot net site, only two WAD files are included with the game:

  • Hexen - hexen.wad, and
  • Death Kings of the Dark Citadel = hexdd.wad
