I appreciate all the work that Rocky5 has done over the years for the Xbox modding scene; the softmodding tool set recommended in that YT video, updating Chimp, XBMC4xbox stuff and a host of other things too.

I've promoted his Softmodding Tools package countless times to newbies and those having issues with their softmod as it is undoubtedly the safest, best thought out and comprehensive tool set there is available.

But do not forget there are others like SID/AID, SPPV's updates to that and it would be wrong not to mention Heimdall's HeXEn too. That is, rightly, still a highly regarded and useful tool set for softmods, TSOPs and chipped machines.

However I question the idea that there is a 'vital' need to update any v5 SID or v4 AID installation at all. On Xbox-Scene Heimdall always said the main reason to use HeXEn was because it was, at that time, the safest package available. Very true, but he implied that was because, by default, it took away some of the (risky) choices you get with SID/AID.

SID/AID actually have the install options to be almost as safe as HeXEn ie. the softmod protected by using Shadow C etc. It is just that your typical Xbox softmodding newbie does not usually understand this and consequently installs a lesser protected 'vanilla' softmod with no idea of the potential risk that carries.

Too often the result is posts to forums like this about blank screens due to corrupted dashboards, softmods lost after being updated by games or other fiddling hands. Much the same reasoning and thinking was behind the creation and default features of Rocky5's Softmodding Tool too.

But IMHO the choice offered by SID/AID to install an unprotected softmod if that is what the user wants, understanding the risk of course, is one I would defend. In short, if a softmod is working, stable and does what you want it to do it is not broken so why 'fix' it by updating?

Archangel hey bud these are all going to be going into the new softmod tsop category and the plan is to for say softmod
Rocky 5 tutorial
Sid tutorial
Slayers

Tsop methods for each version so it’s a real hands on

Modchips well I have been collecting a lot for this reason to start doing tuts for them and the more common Aladdin

All with the use of aid and hexen and others

That is the goal for this to be a straight one stop for all methods and let the person choose

In certain circumstances an update is a good choice. For example I updated the force HD code for the NKPatcher from 5.12 to Babylon. Or when I updated 5.11 to 512 to fix the Shadow C. Abd there are other cosmetic reasons like typos and such. But for the most part it comes down to what you like and what you want. Some want all the options and full freedom and others want a fully auto lock down mod. The idea that one is more secure than another is somewhat misleading. I can break any softmod in about 3 seconds. And there are very real issues with some blacklisting work with never having tried it or making 100% bullshit assumptions based on reddit posts by a retard
