Hi everyone, new member and hoping to get some advice or suggestions on dealing with error code 11 on an OG Xbox when booting.

I recently softmodded an OG Xbox that I had purchased a year ago from eBay and everything was going well when today after adding some ROMs to XBMC-Emustation I rebooted the Xbox and suddenly started to get the "Your Xbox needs service" with error code 11.

I took apart the system, reseated all cables and still have the same issue. Visual inspection doesn't show anything out of the ordinary, and overall the system is in very good shape and is very clean.

Is there any way to bypass the DVD drive check on boot, or any good resources to get a replacement DVD drive? Looking on eBay it's almost cheaper to buy a whole new Xbox than just the drive.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

yea most time is only time to spend good money is on a good one like the hitachi lg or phillips drives imo but depends where you are located and that but you can hit me up in the discord i might be able to help i have a few different drives. but what it sounds like is the dvd drive board crapped out and with a chip it be different story it would bypass if need but softmod i dont think it does. you could also do the $4.00 aladdin chip or there is a few other ones that are also nice with features like xecuter 2.6 or the xecuter 3 and various others. Does your dvd drive even spin up? Hit me up in the discord for faster responses if needed bud.

Make sure there are no bent pins in all the connectors both the IDE cable and connector on the drive and the power/control (all yellow) cable connected to the motherboard and DVD drive.

With a softmodded system, the stock BIOS is booting and DVD check cannot be bypassed. With a modchip and properly customized BIOS, the startup DVD check can be disabled.

Looks like it’s probably the drive’s board. All pins are good, all connections secure, and a different IDE cable didn’t make a difference. The drive is a Philips.

How much effort is adding a mod chip with a different BIOS to bypass the DVD check on boot? So far seems much cheaper than a new drive.
