Just finished playing a couple of Xbox games installed on the HDD in F:\Games. I backed up the saves for that session as I always do and then decided to transfer the full DLC pack installer into F:\Apps that I'd FTPed to a temporary folder on F:\ earlier in the day.
At some point I went back to F:\Games to check what games I had which had DLC available and I was 'surprised' to find the folder appeared empty. I went to the UnleashX main dash and tried launching Games and, again, nothing. I tried other dashes including XBMC4Xbox all with the same result.
The F:\Games folder is still there, everything else on F:\ is still there and working: Emulators, HomeBrew games, Apps, various archives etc. It is just the contents of the F:\Games folder that are 'missing'.
I hoped it was a reporting issue so shutdown and restarted............................no change.
Here's the maddening thing: the volume occupied by the games is clearly still there. The 320GB HDD has a total F:\drive size of around 290GB (correctly formatted with Chimp 32K) and it is still showing the free space of about 40GB it had were the games still there.
That suggests whatever has gone wrong the F:\Games folder contents ARE still there but have some sort of corruption. Maybe its just an indexing ID but the bottom line is they're not being recognised as games now by UnleashX or any other dash.
Obviously I still searched through all the existing folders on F:\ in case the games had been moved. I think would have noticed that and as I feared wherever they are on F:\ they are invisible to the Xbox.
That is a big problem; it would be bad enough having to reinstall 30+ games (>100GB) but as it is I can not see any way around having to wipe and reformat F:\ which means all (>100GB) of the other stuff there will have to reinstalled too. I have backups but that is still a very big task.
If anyone can come up with a solution that will fix this totally unexpected problem without nuking the entire contents of F:\ I'd appreciate some advice.
EDIT
XBPartitioner v1.3 is showing an ER against partition 6 the F:\drive..................... That suggests the cluster size is wrong. It fits far too well to be a coincidence. A 290GB partition which, literally, has just exceeded the stated 16K 250GB content limit thanks to that DLC pack install.
I know I formatted it, possibly with an older version of Chimp, which must have left it with 16K.
The problem is how do you actually check the cluster size for a particular partition? Chimp, even the latest update only shows slave drive's partition table in most cases.
Does XBPartitioner provide this information? It just seem to indicate everything is using 16K unless otherwise stated - is that correct?
Any advice on refomating to 32K clusters without destroying the existing content on the F:\drive would be very welcome.

You use a text dummy fileto check cluster size. AID included a number of them and Im sure there are tuts on how to create a dummy file
Also does your mod support LBA 48? thats the big issue, if it does a 290GB partition is fine, if it doesnt you need to shrink it to 137GB and put the rest on G
And you cant format without nuking the contents it does not happen ever. Everything on that partition will be vaporized

Yep, sage advice.
Contents of F:\ indeed all gone but I could backup all but the missing F:\Games folder before reformatting so whilst that was a tediously job I've not lost anything I wanted to keep on F:\.
AFAIK the BIOS I'm using (Xecuter 2.6 chipped Xbox) should be OK although the fact I don't actually know has always been a concern for me. The machine was professional chipped back in 2006 and only recently have I actually checked the two banks and realised they're obviously different BIOS. But what?
I asked whether it was possible to identify an unknown chip BIOS on several other Xbox forums recently. They could guess at what the first bank one was from the description (pink EvoX logo top left and blue Xbox logo) saying it was mostly likely one of the evox8plus range. But which one?
As I previously used a 160GB HDD and F:\ on that formatted and displays correctly as 144GB+ total I think the BIOS must be one of the Logical Block Addressing 48 (LBA 48 ) supporting versions.
Before I exceeded the 16K cluster size limit which caused the problem described I had about 250GB used space on the 320GB which was displaying and working fine. That is surely evidence that the BIOS, whatever it is, does support LBA 48.
About the dummy file being used to check the cluster size,. I do have lots of AID versions with the dummy files (BTW I've not found it necessary to use them with any discs I've burned) but how, exactly, do I use one to check the cluster size on a particular partition?

The dummy file works by matching cluster size. For example if you were formatting at 16k you would FTP over a 16k file then go into file manager. If the cluster size is indeed 16k that file you just FTPed over will show as 16k. If its formatted wrong it wont show as 16k. You can also exceed size for example using the 16k again if you formatted proper and FTP over say a 17k file it will show as 32k in file manager because it will take 2 clusters.
As for the BIOS based on the colour thats a user hacked BIOS. If you have a backup of it or are able to dump a copy you could use something like EVTool to check what it is or else try running BIOS Checker on the XBOX but its not 100% reliable as many BIOS came out after it was last updated
