A UK Xbox (PAL) model has a small rectangular black sticker on the back just to the left of the two pin, 'figure 8' power cable socket showing the supported voltage.

It should show 220V - 240V 1.2A 50Hz.

The standard US/Canada mains supply is 110V - 120V 60Hz that's what should be shown on the equivalent NTSC sticker.

So a PAL region Xbox won't work with the US mains supply, not enough power. If you tried to use a NTSC Xbox in the UK/EU you'd kill the Xbox's power supply board at the very least and maybe yourself. Smile

In this case what you need is a step up transformer ie. US 110V to 220V/240V. They're easily found at Amazon and on eBay - but you get what you pay for and, like a PC, the transformer needs to be of an appropriate power rating too. The Xbox draws up to 100W so ideally you need a transformer rated to 150W or more.

You might get away with 100W, the stated maximum power consumption of the original Xbox, but you'd risk the transformer overheating with all the potential consequences that would have. Sad

There is another solution but this has more risks:-

The Xbox power supply boards are very easily replaced and it is possible to swap the UK one out for a US one. I've read of others who've done this successfully and in theory there should be no problems. All the power board is really doing itself is acting as step down transformer and rectifier turning AC mains to 12V(?) DC.

HOWEVER, it is not quite as simple as just swapping boards because MS, in their wisdom, changed the physical design of the power supply boards from Xbox version to version. That means you should really only use power supply boards from same version models.

When you add in the possibility of regional variations it is impossible to give rock solid advice in this case.

There is some interchangeability but you must know what you're doing. If you fit the wrong board in the wrong model Xbox or in an Xbox that has, for instance been replaced or case modded, some power supply boards will short on the metal shielding. You will fry the the whole thing and probably yourself in the process.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I'd go with the step-up transformer but TBH the price you're likely to pay for a decent one will be more than buying another used NTSC Xbox. So you have to decide for yourself whether it is worth it. Maybe best to keep the PAL one for spares, particularly if the DVD drive is in good working condition.

You can also go to Home Depot or Best Buy and buy a 220 to 110 and 110 to 220 adapters http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/digipower-digipower-world-travel-adapter-with-usb-acp-wta-acp-wta/10149042.aspx?cmp=KNC-GOOGLE:Shopping+Campaign+-+Luggage+%26+Backpacks:Luggage+%26+Backpacks&gclid=CjwKCAjwranNBRBhEiwASu908Ak-2VdMbOSNxXznBH5Thcktco1hGYBD4TiiyGUbSJ6XnTz5xQoDIhoC68cQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds. They are meant for hooking up dryers which normally run on 220 in apartments that only have 110 plugs. They look like a power line wifi plug and will have a weird plug in
