I bought a component cable for my PAL Xbox V1.4 with softmod UnleashX but it shows mostly green though I know I have to run enigmah video selector to NTSC for the higher 720p res but since the console will be NTSC do I need a NTSC TV or is my PAL TV fine? Stupid question I know but I am just unsure if the output is whatever is set in enigmah... What is best to use should I use a bootable CD or just install it on the HDD? I ask in case there is a problem with the display will a bootable CD show up every time visualy normal or is it the same as a HDD install?

Firstly: I'm concerned about your comments about a 'green' bias when using a Component cable. Unless your TV does not support SD (480i or 576i) via Component there is some display problem. Even then I'd expect a scrambled or no image not a green one.

Cable could be faulty but are you sure you haven't plugged the phono plugs in the wrong sockets? It is very easy to do particularly if there are other phono sockets ie. stereo I/O and Composite ones nearby.

Many softmod packages like AID and HeXEn include Engimah as a app but if you really don't have it then best to find and install it rather than using from a disc.

Your PAL TV does have to support NTSC but the fact is most do and have done for years. You'd be very unlucky to have one that doesn't.

The majority of PAL Xbox games include NTSC support and a significant number of NTSC games are genuinely region free too ie. they'll play on even an umodded Xbox. So once you've region swapped from PAL to NTSC using Enigmah you will rarely have to switch back to PAL again.

However do remember that whilst you can run your dash at 480p, 720p or 1080i and view media content in ED/HD most Xbox games only support 480p.

Thanks again for your reply ArchAngle and to my other posts throughout this forum, I think I have a faulty cable I got it today from ebay, I tried a monitor that has RGB and its the same as my TV and my TV's component works fine with my Wii. The only way to distinguish the video and audio side of the two red plugs is that the two audio plugs are linked together with a plastic clip and the 3 video are seperate anyway I swapped them just to test to see what is what and the audio one is the audio and the same for the video one. I found enigmah on the UnleashX apps so great and thanks now I dont have to FTP or burn a disc and Im off to get a refund from ebay but I bet I have to pay the postage back to them.

Is it possible my cable connection in the xbox is faulty and is only working with an AV (red/white/yellow) cable??? im just eliminating possibilities

If you bought the Xbox new and treated it normally then the chances of it being a Xbox connector pin fault are unlikely.

How often does anyone unplug/plug in a different cable? It gets very little use so unless someone has tried to force something into the socket which wasn't intended then I'd discount that as a possibility.

It occurred to me later that if it is third party your Component cable might be a dual purpose one with a switch to swap between AV Composite (sometimes also S-Video) and Component. But that should be obvious as you'd have an additional (usually yellow) AV Composite connector alongside the three Component (green/blue/red) and two L/R Stereo (red/white).

Maybe other third party cables do it differently but I'd be surprised if it had a mode switch and you hadn't noticed it.

Possible Component connection problems:-

1). If only the green cable in the green socket is working ie. the blue and red are faulty/disconnected then all you'd get is a b/w picture.

2). Without the green plug in the green socket you won't get any picture at all. That connection must be OK.

If you swap the red and blue plugs around and the colour corrects then this this is simply a manufacturing mistake, the red and blue plugs have been attached to the wrong wires. But it sounds like you've already checked that out.

Therefore, from your description of the colour bias, I'd guess either the red or blue cable/connectors are faulty. It could even be even one is faulty the other has the wrong colour plug.

I can't think of a more likely explanation for the problem other than a faulty cable.
