Well guys DJB is talking, maybe, doing a new AID, which I hope he does. Heres the thing though, he wants to add in the improvements Ive made as far as softmodding goes(recovery partition, disc based C unlock, Ndure unlock, runtime co-op lock, video patch fixes etc0 Ux USB support, VIA HDD and EXTRACT, the Babylon compiler and Im assuming the built in XISO and tutorial support.

Im curious what our users think. Would you like to see Babylon and AID stay seperate projects or become 1 new project?

From my point of view personally I have reservations about all of my work going in just due to the fact implementation can cause support issues. If things arent incorporated properly I cant offer proper support and it would mean unless DJB is willing to spend more time here virtually no support, or lack luster support. I dont have time to write the various parts then modify them to fit AID so it will be a case of "heres the SRC go nuts" if people support the merge idea.

But thats just me, I'll support whatever the majority of our community supports, so cast your ballot guys.

I can't speak for all members,
It would be be good to see AID have these fantastic improvements.
I don't want to divide the community with my opinion here with just one vote.
My opinion is i don't want to see these both fantastic installers merge.
Would you like to see Babylon and AID stay as separate projects.

Correct me if I am wrong SPPV, but as far as I know AID was designed for users running hard modded xboxes (mainly chipped ones) but that it did offer softmod support.

You programs such as autobuilder and babylon are mainly targeted for softmod users, but do offer installers etc for those with chipped or TSOP flashed systems.

What I like about AID was that it had installers for all sorts of older out-of-date dashboards people made back in the early 2000s like avalaunch. I remember seeing a screenshot (from xboxhq's online AID user manual) for a particular dashboard with an orange sunset ocean backgounrd. It also had mac HDD icon that tickles my fancy as a mac user Smile Unfortunately I can't recall the name of it.

Regardless, I would love to see installers for the older dashboards as default dashboards or just as E drive apps like you currently offer for xbmc, evox and unleashx.

Unless DJB wants to put in the effort adding on all your latest work and ensuring that merging his work with yours is flawless, I'd prefer you adding on some of the older features AID offered with your programs. I think it'd be better integrate his older work into your programs than vice versa. No offense intended towards DJB, who helped make this site possible Smile

Thanks for hearing my thoughts

You're referring to AnOd-X. Here's a link for more info...

I dont include the older dashboards for a few reasons.....
1)Some only work with a 4920 dash which means no go on a softmod
2)Some were just crap lol, so nobody uses em
3)Many have no skins or support so people would be flying blind using em
4)Space is a premium with Babylon because of the XTRAS ROM packs and PC features

I include Ava as a live app which can easily be installed as an app on your XBOX simply by copying the AVA folder to your apps folder.

I tend to be very careful/anal when it comes to the apps etc I include. I almost didnt include Configmagic and XBPartitioner because of the risk of people screwing up their XBOX with em.

AID was meant to cover both hard and soft, just because of DJBs personal experience and his wish to try to cover everything you dont see it "specialise" so to speak like Babylon. Babylon was/is/always will be a softmod app with very little support for chip/tsop so has a more diverse set for softmod. I only started including hardmod features because it appeared DJB was done with XBOX so wanted to try and least bring some of the stuff inline with todays tech.

@Ken
You wont split the community, nor will this vote lol. Its simply meant as a way to gauge what the users want before I either give DJB my SRC or proceed with Babylon2. Time is a premium for me so I dont want to be doing stuff twice lol

I do.
As I want to see a new AID.
And since SPPV is the only one who updates the Softmod method. Babylon and AID shouild merge. Or at least the latest softmod method should be in AID. But somehow I think that it will be there nevertheless.

If it brings problems to merge, then don't do it.
We don't want an installer with bugs, do we?

Really its just loads of editing. Since everything I made for Babylon uses different file setup, different paths, different names, requires different files blah blah blah Very Happy So most of my SRC has to be edited for it. Typo hell lol And if AID is gonna run like Babylon (Do the Babylon PC installer) have the built in tutorial videos, online HD tutorials direct connected from the installer use the updated mod, install debug and emus with Xtras ROM pack, just isnt much point of having both, and I can just redo all my stuff for Babylon2 to run in AID if thats what people want. Not a huge deal especially if I know before I finish the beta so theres less to edit and DJB can just drop the stuff in AID and not have to worry.

So come on people theres more than 3 users here lol Put in your opinion its you guys that will be using it.

Crying or Very sad
i have no opinions but rather an observation....
why fix what isn't broken?
would they be any point integrating an object into babylon when that object is likely to get piss-poor support?
ken nailed it in one! (and no point creating extra work for yourself) Cool
....
back under my stone!

Any other opinions guys? Feel free say what you will, bash, condem, congratulate its all welcome. Not only does your voice say what direction we should be going, its also a usefull chance to mention bugs or what you dont like about either program. This is ALL about YOU. While its been a while since I chatted with DJB I know hes like me, would rather hear a negative response than a person stay silent. Cant fix what we dont know is broke and all.

@RoyalX
Yes you are correct, no matter what I will be compiling the files for the Public Key mod for DJB to use in AID should the projects stay seperate and he choses to proceed with AID.

Bear in mind people, this is me asking not DJB, Im simply running on info Hobbs has passed me (Him and DJB are local friends from eons ago, like days of Moses) And he has not voiced any wish to merge to me, it just seems the logical step based on the info I have.

I guess I would personally prefer them to stay separate. AID seems more designed for hardmods (Chip and TSOP) and a little bit of softmod.

Autobuilder and babylon are more for softmods with a bit of hardmod support.

I guess I'd be interested in seeing how DJB updates AID and for clarity sake, would probably prefer both projects stay separate.

@SPPV, what would be the advantage of a merger exactly? Would you and DJB be coordinating your efforts to make an all-in-one modding/installer program?

i appreciate you asking your users for their input.

do you want it?
do you think it will benefit you and/or the users?
it makes sense to only work on one project but these things have been in the wild for many years updated and patched putting them together would just create more need to patch and update, can you two pull it off alone? it seems like a lot of work, yet less work for two projects just in updates and fixes. idk

maybe it would be a good thing. if its just a matter of one going to the other project and just add the nice/wanted bits to that project.

new name? so both of you own the project and, if later needed, you can dissolve easily?

its up to you two to decide if its best for you.
