Hi SPPV and Gang!
I have had a slight problem (well more of an uphill battle from the start!) with modding my latest xbox. I won't bore you with details of all my previous problems, but after finally resolving them and getting to the stage where I connect my new xbox hard disk to be, I find that my desktop uses SATA hard drives!
So I can not connect the hard disk to the primary ribbon; I'm pretty screwed right! Well would it be possible to use a SATA - IDE convertor on the hard disk to boot the baby up? I'm thinking of buying this one if you think it will work?
What's the verdict guys, will this save me, or should I just throw this f**king crystal xbox in the bin!
Thanks in advance for your help

wont work. XBOXHDM doesnt recognise SATA ports just IDE. You need a PC with IDE ports

^^ THAT!
the ONLY exception to that rule is a reversal! (using an ide computer with a compatible sata converter on the ribbon/flyer) but the computer and converter has to be a perfect match!
as it stands, you be fucked!
sorry man...
hope you get a result/fix the thing!?
(and don't trash that crystal box, you have a TOP housing there....
not too long ago, i've scored the crystal i was after since day-0 and it hardly cost me a bat! the thing is still at factory defaults and hasn't been opened/looked at yet but the unit plays great as if it was out the factory today!) _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

Okidoki thanks SPPV, saved me wasting another £3!
Amiga - I'm not really going to bin it, it was in perfect condition, not modded or opened, from a charity shop with dvd remote for £9! Bargin!
I will have to hunt down a friend with an old desktop that will work...last time I did this I used my dad's old desktop, but he literally threw it out a few weeks ago! Grrrr... Nevermind I'm sure I will find one soon enough.
The hunt continues...

now THAT'S a bargain to have a tug by!
...
the setup i got was...
1, crystal xbox (as mentioned above)
2, 1x crystal s-type pad, official!
3, 1x dvd ir remote and 2x ir receivers! (so i have a spare receiver in the wings)
4, the standard LRV (CVBS) cable...
5, an RF/UHF modulator/output signal converter! (til i got that xbox, i've NEVER seen an RF modulator for it in my life, didn't know they existed)
6, not related to the console but a male-to-male scart/PERITEL trunk came with it! (i have a few of those already, kinda redundant cables in my household! (Y.Pb.Pr. "component" in my household or fuckoff xbox!)
......
all for the bargain price of 10 bat$ sterling!
....
you got a steal for 9 bat$ there, guard it as if it was your own flesh and blood! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

i modded my crystal pad, it had the brown circuit board inside and it died so i took the guts from a black s type green circuit board, and i think it looks better now, needs some lighting or something but i never find the time to do the cool shit.

I really need to get off my ass and finish UBCD Pimped and UbuntuBuilder. Both can handle SATA ports and SATA HDD no issue. I never checked but my XBOXHDM1.9b may work for you.
Only reason XBOXHDM cant see SATA is because its a frieking ancient Linux distro. I used a SYS Linux distro (HDM previous used a ISO Linux) from 2010 if remember right in 1.9b. I did it for a easy option to 2.2 since SLAX is annoying for USB booting. Considering that its a fairly recent linux its no stretch 1.9b can see a SATA. . Its in the download section. Be aware its very BIOS picky. Im not sure why but some PC crap out after booting it and everything Ive "seen" from the error reports in those cases comes back to BIOS. Essentialy it just spoofs the BIOS into thinking the USB is a "disc" so PCs without Boot from USB option in BIOS can use it, but I dont know enough about PC BIOS to fix the issue that some people have with 1.9b
An easy way to test is just make a USB with 1.9b, leave a SATA HDD hooked up and pick option 3 and pick Unlock HDD. If it detects the HDD it will say Drive is not locked, but if it doesnt see the HDD youll get a Hey are you stupid you need to connect the HDD so I can unlock it message LOL
Oh and LMAO AID was DJBs XBOX super installer disc. Autobuilder is other side of the world totaly different app by me. Just saying LOL (topic name)
