Hello to all @ xbox-hq.com, im new to modding the xbox! I had one years ago but never modded it. Anyway i have got my hands on one again & i decided to softmod it.
I used SID 5.11 & all was good, loaded up XBMC & thats where my troubles began.
Enough of the background story now on to the problem.. I decided i didnt have enough storage because i wanted to give Muggen a go & the 1 i chose was 5.9gb. I messed up the hotswap when i accidentally formatted my original drive!!! Luckily i have everything backed up but then FTP died on me. I made the linuk disc with xboxhdm_v1.9 & included my C,E & eeprom backups. Managed to unlock the original & copy back the C & E partitions but it wont let me lock the hdd again. I have also tried with the 300gb i wanted to install & again it will not lock. Im just told that the drive is frozen!
Ive done a lot of searching & there are a lot of different things that have worked for different people. Though i would swing by here to see what the experts say. Would like to start of with easy then on to medium then if all fails hard.
Sorry about the essay..Thanx in advance for the help..

What type of computer do you have? I've heard that Compaqs will not lock hard drives most of the time and will return a "drive frozen" message.
Other solutions to this problem include trying to lock the hard drive on the primary slave channel, or going into your bios and turning off primary master select. _________________

I have a old DELL that i use for a media server and a compaq laptop. Im sure i have a 2.5 to 3.5 hdd adapter somewhere, what do you think about trying to lock on my laptop? I am sure i tried all sorts of jumper & cable combinations but will give them all another go just to make sure.
Going round a mates house tomorrow to try his pc but it is a dell also??
Thanx for the suggestion..

Yes, I always used CS on the HDD when locking/unlocking on XBHDM. I do have one question for you myself, when trying to lock the drive, are you using the hotswap method still, or are you plugging the drive into the computers ID AND molex power adapter? Just in case you are still trying to go with the HS method, try plugging the drive into nothing but the computer (power and IDE) and see if this helps, if you already are, sorry to have bothered! _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

Hello again - Good news ive just managed to lock the hdd & get my xbox booting again but only with the original hdd. The 300gb seagate says it has locked under xboxhdm but the xbox gives me an err 6 cant unlock hdd?
What do you think is my best way forward to get my bigger drive installed. Bios flashing? If so which 1?
Should the new drive have the same password as the old drive? When i generate a password its totally different than the 1 used to unlock the retail?
Cheers people really appreciate the help..
P.S. Here is what got my drive unfrozen! HDD primary master with jumper set to master. CD rom on secondary slave jumper set to slave & auto select for primary ide turned off.
P.P.S just tried to lock with key made from eeprom but get err 06 again. Im thinking its going to have to be a bios flash.. Any recommendations?

If you're running a softmod (SID is a softmod) then you can't flash the bios. Softmods only change the boot order of the dashboards and allow unsigned code to be ran, but it does not change the bios itself at all.
I don't know what you mean by generation a key for locking the hard drive. If you have the xboxes eeprom on the xboxhdm disc it should be unlockable. If you are using the same disc that you used to create the stock hard drive, then I'd suspect the 300gb hard drive has something wrong with it. _________________

Sorry i thought flashing the Tsop on a V1.0 - 1.5 was a way of running unsigned code?
Looks like i have a lot more reading to do.
So the replacement drive should be locked with the same key as the stock hdd? How come when i use the eeprom.bin with xboxhdm to generate a key then it gives an unlock code that is totally different to the original! All the tools i have used tell me that the 300gb seagate is lockable?
This is harder than i thought it was going to be!

Since you are softmodded, I would suggest flashing the on board BIOS, and the way you will do this is by performing whats called a TSOP flash, which requires you to solder a point or 2 on your motherboard depending on your motherboard version. I will post a link on how to TSOP your xbox if you would like to give it a try!

If you have a v1.0-1.5 xbox and you feel comfortable attempting it, by all means do that. It will be the easiest and most flexible way to mod your Xbox.
As for your generating a key to load the hard drive, I don't really understand where the key is coming from still. I haven't used Xboxhdm in a few years, but if I remember correctly all you do is use the same eeprom.bin that you would use on the stock hard drive and then have xboxhdm lock the hard drive. _________________

What hes saying is the key is coming from his eeprom.bin and when he locks the hard drive with it, the xbox gives him error 06 meaning that the xbox cannot unlock the drive, most likely because it is not being locked correctly with the eeprom.bin or xbhdm is having issues. _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

Yes hes correct sorry if i wasnt explaining myself very well! I was locking with xbhdm & my dumped eeprom.bin. I thought that the key would be the same for any drive but now know that it isnt!
I have managed to do the hdd swap with chimp, really easy way to go & it locked the same drive that xbhdm was having problems with & the key generated by chimp was exactly the same as the one generated by xbhdm.
I am willing to give the TSOP flash a try, is there any point since i have the hdd replaced now? Are there any other advantages? What would i use to flash & where to find the bios?
Thanx to all that helped me get this resolved..

If you can TSOP the Xbox, I would most definitely do it. If you TSOP it, you can leave the hard drive unlocked which makes it easy to swap drives if your drive ever fails. TSOPing it will make the Xbox act like it has a mod chip pretty much, so any advantage that a modchip has over a softmod, a TSOP has as well.
First off, you need to figure out what version your Xbox is. If you have a version 1.0 or 1.1 Xbox you will have a 1mb bios and if you have a 1.2-1.5, you only get a 256kb bios. I have never done a 1.2-1.5 TSOP, so I don't know as much about it. If you have a version 1.0 or 1.1, you will want to flash it with the 1mb version of the X2_5035 bios. Make sure you flash the TSOP with X2_5035 old, not plus. Plus is only for 1.6 xboxes, and a TSOP xbox is definitely not a 1.6. I believe if you have a 1.2-1.5, you will flash a 256kb evox bios to the TSOP.
Once you get the points soldered you'll use AID to flash the tsop. Just make sure you use the bios addon pack on the ISO before you burn it and pop AID in your Xbox. Then you just go advanced tools and then bios flasher. It will then prompt you for what size bios you want, and then what bios you want. It will ask you to confirm where to flash to, and then you hold your breath and hope the Xbox doesn't lose power.
Hi every one, back for some more help.. I finally got some time to myself!
I have my xbox motherboard out ready to flash but im a bit confused on what box i have.
I think its a 1.2 but in the tuts it states that the bios for should be 256k but my dump says that it is 1024k which is the size of a v1 box???
If it helps its the green halo box & it was sealed when i got my paws on it. Right lets try to get some pics up -
Any help as always appreciated!
THANX..

From your pics you have a 1.2 or a 1.3 xbox.
If you have an NTSC xbox it is the 1.2
1.2 or 1.3 for a tsop you will solder here any way:

Ok that is what i thought, so why does my backup folder contain a bios.bin file of 1024k not the 256k i was expecting?
