Today i decided to try and fix my broken xbox, i managed to soft mod it ok and FTP into it with no hassle BUT being a noob i decided to format the the HD as i wanted a fresh install of XBMC (it had been installed a couple of years before), not really knowing what i was doing i pressed some buttons and then rebooted.
After reboot the softmod told me about some files missing 'press A to install and continue' which i did several times but got nowhere, so i decided to reinstall the softmod via TC Splinter Cell but the linux save wasn't there! It didn't recognize it on my memory card for some reason (it is on there).
So i selected the download maps within splinter which told me i need to set up an account which i agreed to, it then told me to update my dash which it did in seconds (i watched the download progression bar fill up - i thought MS pulled the plug on this ages ago???), this updated my dash as hoped thinking that was why the linux exploit wouldn't show but it F***D my dash up completely, i now only get what is shown in the pic and no matter what i select there is no escape from this screen, no other options, nothing. It will play original games though but not installer disks etc.

So..my question is, can i still somehow softmod it or have i blown it, the xbox is a crystal box so im guessing its 1.6.
I still have a couple of xecuter X3 chips but i don't have the correct adapter for 1.6. Is hard modding an option?
Hope someone can help, i don't want to get rid of it unless i have to. Thanks.
