couple things you can try first is dos locking tools and manualy enter the code, second is using the boot disc with eeprom added or third is hook the drive to your XBOX unplug the DVD drive (power and IDE) turn on the XBOX, unplug the IDE from the hard drive wait maybe 30 seconds, hook the IDE back to the drive and turn the XBOX off.
Sucks to hear about the lock failure if you happen to try again and get the same message if you can write down exactly what the error message is and post it I can look into it, its possible when I did the code to shutdown unneeded hardware to increase detection I shutdown something thats required by Linux Lock Image

When it comes to locking a HDD theres a very good chance issues originate from the BIOS. For some reason some BIOS just choke on locking, but if it is a BIOS issue the trick using the XBOX to lock it should work fine, no diff than doing a hotswap.
This attachment may also help you, you use MHDD just like DOs Locking (manualy eneter the lock code) but the nice thing is it totaly bypasses the BIOS for detection and gets it stratigh from the board

Unzip it first it should be an ISO. 1 other thing you may want to try first that worked for me on my buddies HP is boot up the PC and wait until it gives you an error message along the lines of "insert system disc and hit enter" to put in the disc then boot locking tools. But if I were you Id save a disc and just use the XBOX to lock it. It doesnt have to be near the PC and no actual hotswap needs to be done, just powering off the XBOX with the HDD attached shoud lock it. Its the exact same as when you dont have the EEPROM and do a hotswap, the BOX wil lock the drive with the EEPROM stored on the MOBO, and as long as you use the XBOX that the HDD is for it will be the proper EEPROM. Like I said just unplug the DVD drive hook the HDD up to the XBOX and turn it on you should get a no DVD drive error (error 12) unplug the IDE ffrom the HDD wait 30 seconds plug it back in and turn off the XBOX

Make sure you unplug the DVD drive in the XBOX before trying, otherwise it will detect the unlocked drive.

Yeah just I wont actualy be able to lock a drive since I have no IDE ports on my good tower.
But basicaly unzip the attachment you should get an ISO file called Magic Boot Disc. Open Imgburn select the magic boot disc ISO and burn at 4x. Put it in your DVD drive same as Pimped and boot, pick MHDD it will ask you for the lock code type in the code and hit enter

Ah all right so burn all the files (unzip mhdd before burnin?) and I should be able to select the programs at boot up? I only have one disc and I dont really want to open up a 50 pk until I have the xbox working again.

This is what you should have. It should just be 1 file after extracting the zip file you downloaded.

PowerIso should work fine I used to use it back when it was called Ultra ISO Just burn the ISO, its a live disc basicaly like Hirens or XBOXHDM but its sole purpose is for unlocking drives.
