Ok so i modded my xbox about 2 years ago with unleash X. Now i went to transfer sanandreas to it, but the connection between pc and xbox is not detected. The pc still has the red x on the connection icon, and the xbox says no link. I tried 3 different cords. What am i doing wrong?

That made me giggle, how ever you may be able to install a USB device on to your XBOX mind you it's a bit difficult. Then you could buy this little gadget.

http://www.amazon.com/USB-Ethernet-Network-RJ45-Adapter/dp/B0036ZHNJW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1308305827&sr=8-4

Have you tried another Ethernet cord, Is it coming straight from your router?

If your trying to directly transfer an XBOX game's iso to the HDD via ftp then I don't think it would play you need to burn it on a DVD-r. How ever the red x should indecent that it is picking it up may need some trouble shooting though it sounds like that your plugging an Ethernet cord from your laptop into your XBOX?

When you see the IP you would type that as your host, and your Username would be xbox and password xbox the port is 21.

I'm just doing some guessing but a guy with more knowledge should post soon.

You cant just plug a USB wireless adapter into an XBOX, it requires drivers, as of yet the only compatable one is a netgear wireless card that you have to soder in. As for games you never try to transfer ISO via ftp folders (extracted ISO) only.

If youre trying to run internet from your laptop to the xbox follow this tutorial

But the major question is: Is it possible to fix the NIC chip?
I've already asked around. And they said it is much hassle, because you have to change a lot on the mobo. Better to get a new xbox.

Any experience here?

Its quite easy but before going to that step you need to confirm that it is infact the issue and not a bad network setup, improper dash instal/setup, bad ethernet cord, cross over vs ethernet, firewall issues, network setup not to share the list is endless Its best to confirm before desoldering the port and replacing it with a run of the mil PC 100GB ethernet port or a Netgear Wireless card.

I had 1 XBOX that no matter what I did wouldnt get internet unless I ran a AVA live boot disc, many would have thought it a bad port when in actual fact it was a bad Unleashx Config file

Tell me exactly what youve done step by step, what programs you are using etc

OK SPPV. I've bought 1 xbox with the X2 chip. Not sure which dash it had. I think either Unleash or Evo. Plugging the ethernet in, the led at the port would not lit. Tried different internet cords. Also checked all settings, even the MS dash settings. But still no connection.
Updated the X2 bios and installed XBMC as dash. Still no connection. The led is not burning.

Just checked the box again. It has also a XBMC v1 on it. But nothing can be changed in the network settings.

Reading the possible issues, my guess goes to improper dash install/setup?

AVA live boot disc?

Hope you got the solution otherwise it is a pity of the chip and the case with some mod.

NO. The ethernet port does not work. It just stopped. I have evolutionX installed too because its easier to FTP but the ethernet port wort do anything. I tried several cords and a different computer. I plugged the cord into the xbox then to another xbox to see what would happen and of cource neither can see each other. The xbox wont show the lights on the port. Ive also recently had problems with the controller ports 1 and 2 not working but its fixed. I need help please.

Heres an Ava boot disc just extract and burn at 4x. If yur network is setup proper and you stil get no connection then I woud lean towards a dead port. This edition of Ava has been modified specificaly for FTP and has worked for me countless times. No need to install this is like a Hirens Boot disc or Live Linux CD everything runs off the disc. Just pop it in and hit launch DVD. Once it boots up try to ftp.

How is your network setup RoyalX. Are you using a router? attempting a direct connect to a PC? trying to use static or DHCP IP? Cross over or ethernet cable? What FTP software (Filezila FlashFXP etc)?

@Cameroncrogers

I have lots of controller ports kicking around if youd like a replacement for the ones that are dyi.

@ RoyalX/ Cameroncrogers

If it turns out the port is dead I would reccomend buying a new XBOX since it wil probably cost you less. $10 for a new ethernet port, $40 for a sodering iron flux and solder, a very steady hand to desolder the old port and solder in the new one. Where as you can most likely grab an XBOX at the local thrift/second hand store for 10 or 20 bucks

I've burned the boot disc with Nero. Got a message that the block size maybe wrong. "Do you want to correct the value or ignore it". I ignored it. On the xbox it does not boot from the disc. But I'v launched it with the file manager. And still no connection. What do you want me to do with the boot disc. Do I have to change the settings? Everything seems ok to me, except the IP address, but when it is DHCP, it does not matter.

But it seems simple for me, when the led is not lit at the port, there ain't gonna be any connection.

If this will not be fixed, can I get the HD out of the box to use it in another box to transfer the data of it?

The light is inconsequential it only comes on when packets are being transfered. what you want to do is copy the EEPROM.bin to mem card or usb and add it to SID5 Pimped, hook it up to your PC and unlock the HDD. Turn off the PC unhook the drive and hook it up to the new XBOX, unhook the DVD drive, turn on the XBOX, wait 60 seconds then turn the XBOX off. It should have just locked the HDD with the EEPROM off the new XBOX

Nah. Thanks. Fixed it. Stupid xbox and microsoft of cource. BUT all i did to fix it:
1. I took an old router from my closit.
2. I hooked it to the pc and xbox.
3. I set xbox IP to 192.168.1.103
4. I set PC ip to 192.168.1.101
5. Turned on ICS for windows xp on my internets ethernet port.
6. Turned on ICS on the port connecting to xbox.
7. WORKS! Now im playing halo 2 with xLink.

@cameroncrogers.
So the light at the port does burn now?

Glad you fixed it, but still don't know where the problem is.
Is the issue the router?

Does the light burn?

So this was your first attempt with the router. You did not connect it before with a router?
