Here is the situation: I soft modded my XBOX to UnleashX and then tried to put xbmc on it. I FTP'd the xbmc files over to my hard drive and changed the Unleashedx file to a backup and made a shortcut file to xbmc file. i restarted my xbox and got an error 21. Now when i turn my xbox on it will launch to the mx dashboard but when i try to get back to installer with splinter cell my the game just restarts. i have another xbox that i just bought that has a mod chip in it but i don't know anything about that stuff. i just want to get mine working and put xbmc on there and upgrade to my 1.5 TB hard drive. So there it is if anyone can help me that would be great!

Pop in an xbox original game (no back ups here) like Halo2 and with out the net cable hooked up launch a live game and it should rebuild your C drive, from there you will need to delete and reinstall your game save exploit.

I already tried that and when i launch to xbox live it has me enter troubleshooter then if i choose yes it goes straight to the error 21 screen any other ideas?

No not on my computer i copied it onto the xbox before i soft modded it but i didn't copy it to my computer

Ok I think I'm just going to give in and buy a chip to mod my xbox. Now i need to know what chip to get? I'm planning on running xbmc on it and i have a 1.5 TB hard drive for it. The reason I'm giving in is i can't find a way to get the damn eeprom file of my xbox. I tried this guys solution http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/357863 but I tried to use a usb to serial cable but the program doesn't recognize it. I built the eeprom reader and everything...worthless!!!!!!! So now I'm just going to chip it. Any recommendations on which chip to get? Also can I just Use my 1.5 TB HDD from the beginning? Or do I have to use my original HDD first?

Get an X3 CE if you can. Solder it in there if you have the experience to do so and you'll have the best modded xbox experience out there.
You can start off with the 1.5 TB HDD in there if you want, there just won't be anything to boot to so you'll have to boot to AID or something else on a cd/dvd. _________________

so i got this xbox from a guy and i think it might already have a chip in it but i don't know what or how to go about using it. here is a pic of it. is it usable? how can i install my other hard drive on it without the eeprom? thanks for all the help people.

yaaaa your xbox is chipped for sure!!!
Since its chipped all you need to do is dl aid and turn your xbox off, switch the hdd out and then turn it on with the disc already in. The disc that i speak of is AID, once you DL the files you will need to burn the ISO file in there then it will boot up on your xbox.
This should give you multiple options to use such as formatting the hdd, locking the hdd, installing M$ and other dashboARDS AS WELL.

Im not sure if it works with SID but on Ndure when you cant restore the softmod with SC, delete the files Linux Installer, GoatINI, Unleashx Launcher and splinter cell. Copy the save game exploit back on and run the disc it should now let you get to check points and install
The other thing that may work for you is popping in Ultimate boot disc and if it boots (seems to even with softmod shut off) click on restore MSDash, choose from disc and that should have you back in shape
And in future I would reccomend installing XBMC as an app if you already have a dash. Much simpler and non of the headaches described above

ok when i boot up the chipped xbox i get an error 16. is there any way i can boot from a cd then install my new hard drive? or what do i need to do to get it working with xbmc?

As far as a chipped xbox goes that more the domain of the other guys, they seem to be the pros when it comes to chipping. I just do softmod so I can only give advice as far as it goes. And I was only speaking to what was in your original post.

For a chipped box you dont need SID. You would just need to DL AID and use it to install a dashboard to a new HDD and install applications and everything!!!
Service Error 16:
Info: Other files related with the dashboard or dashboard settings (specific dashboard error).
Error 16 means your xbox cannot find the menu setting with which you can set the clock of the hdd. This happens to a lot of people that erase their hdd (original/upgraded) or MS dashboard files and after that they don't immediatly install the hdd but leave the xbox without power longer than 5 hours.
Solution: You may have corrupted dashboard files on your xbox hdd. Use the 'HQ Auto Installer Deluxe' to reinstall your dashboard.
Which means it cannot load a dashboard, so all you need to do is load AID and reinstall a dashboard so that your xbox actually has something to load.
