Post subject: Dashboards

Hi guys,

I'm getting ready to install the SID mod to my xbox and I know there are 3 dashboards you can install from it, but I wondered what options there are if you wanted to have your own "Wallpaper" on your xbox dash, I don't mind what the program thats running is but just wondered if it were at all possible to change the wallpaper? So for instance, I install the SID file/program and pick a dashboard, after thats done I fancy changing the wallpaper to something personal, is that possible? thanks

All the mod dashes will let you change the skin, they just have different ways of doing it. Wink

Ok cool, so will I be able to put my own picture or just choose from a selection in the software? I need to get the Softmod done, unfortunately it'll have to wait until I get paid on monday. The files you linked me to didn't work, they were all corrupted so I need to donate and download them from here which is fine. And I need to buy a memory card. Anyway how does the whole background thing work exactly? Or is it a case of when I get the softmod done it will be self explanitary? thanks

You can get the sid files here with a bit client like vuze or something: http://www.aidtracker.com/ and when you know what dash you want to use then i can tell you what is needed to change the skin.

I have Bittorrent/Bittornado, I did try to get the files from that link last night, downloaded the zip but couldn't unzip the files, it kept saying they are corrupt.

This is the one I downloaded:

Softmod Installer Deluxe v5.10 Final [Info] 100.7 MB 2009-08-30 19 2 2543 261 GB

But it just seems to fail when I unzip.

Thanks again Wes, you and the other guys on here are damn helpful and not to mention patient, I really appreciate it. I have gone through the tutorials section for some of these things and tend to find things that probably relate to what I want but they assume your already at a certain level of knowledge and I find it hard to connect the dots lol

The sid files are in rar not zip, make sure the app you use can unpack a rar and if not get an app called 7zip.

Just downloaded it and works fine here bro.

bizarre, I do indeed have winrar, the file types are automatically opened via winrar (i mean the archive extensions are all associated to winrar automatically) so I can't see why they wouldn't work. Will try again. Cheers guys

Once you have your softmodded xbox up and running you can use the Auto Installer Deluxe (AID) disc to install a few dashboards as applications, you can test them out and see which one best suits your needs before commiting to it and making it your default dash.

EvolutionX is a great dash, its basic but does the job and has some good configuration options if you want to get `under the hood` (SlaYers installer disc is based on it)

UnleashX does the same job, you can configure it the way you like similar to EvolutionX but it has a few more options over EvolutionX, itll play music, has its own disc copy option and can play preview videos of your games as you scroll down your list. (Auto Installer Deluxe is based on it)

XBMC is the mother of all dashboards, you can stream your media from your PC to it, it`ll play a wide selection of file types it`ll probably even butter your toast and its the most up to date of the lot.

Thanks bud, XBMC sounds cool, I won't be storing games on the HDD, I will probably just store music and videos etc. I just want a nice background to be honest, I'm not too fussed about the dashboard functionality, I don't want it to get to complicated, is there one that looks like the current dashboard but with the extra features I require to do stuff I want (playing ntsc games, changing my HDD etc) ??

Oh just to let you know WES and the other dude, I just did the download again and the file actually worked this time, don't know quite what I did differently but nevermind lol!!

Good deal on the sid download bro and @ blue: just find the skin folder and put the skin in there and that should work before and after the softmod.

Hey, by themes do you guys mean the background/dashboard theme? Cos thats what I was talking about in my post about dashboards, When you say find the Skin Folder, where would that be located? Do you mean a folder on the xbox? I must be missing something simple here lol, can you like explore files and folders on your xbox once its modded? just like a windows pc?

All Dashboards feature an FTP server, you can FTP in and add, move or delete files. they also feature a file manager so you can launch .xbe files and copy and move stuff.
The dashboard that you install will have a `skins` folder located within it, FTP your selection of skins to that folder.

Ok, I don't exactly know much about ftp-ing files as such, how does one do that? I know how to access a machine via remote or ip address, and plus, I only have the 1 network cable point on my broadband modem, I assume the xbox has to be online? Sorry to sound dim!
