first off i'm new to this site, xbox's & modding, so yea, i'm behind the 8 ball here. i've looked up softmodding on this site and from my point of view, it looks like a soft mod would allow me to play back up games/movies. seems like all i need is Splinter Cell, a memory card, AR max and the Evox app.
Can the mod Gods please tell me if i'm missing anything or if there's an easier way of doing this without a mod chip? one last thing, is copying a xbox game the same as ps2? i.e dvd decrypter read iso, write iso, enjoy?

Welcome to the XBOX-HQ, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites we have to offer.
sheesh, nice tutorial. best part was the zippo by far lol (i'm a smoker too, my zippo goes everywhere). one thing i'm still wondering though. it says on the Evox dash in your tut; launch games from HDD, play media from DVD (or whatever it said) i'm hoping that backups can be played through DVD and not only from the HD, right? i know the loading time would be lower through the HDD but since I haven't grabbed the Xbox from my friend yet i don't know how large the HDD is or how to store games on the HDD lol. i forgot to mention this last time..... my friend has xbmc installed but didn't say anything about what's it do (besides play music/videos). does that affect the softmod install at all? from a quick forum search, it seems xbmc is a softmod kinda. i gotta sort all of this out b4 i get it home lol

Yeah it can run a game back up from disk and if it is already moded you can just pop in AID and do a one click softmod install to start from scratch with the dash of you choice.

To answer a few questions.
1. You can not read an xbox game in the DVD drive of your PC, so it's not like making a back up on a PS2 game. You have to put the game in the xbox drive, then use an app to copy the game to the HDD. Then you can ftp the files over to your computer.
2. XBMC is a dashboard that will allow you to play back up games no problem.
3. Loading games off the HDD is actually much faster than playing them off disc. A hard drive can read the palette faster than a disc drive can read the disc. _________________

well i realized reading off the HDD would be faster but space is limited on it and since i haven't gotten it yet idk what size the HDD is, could be 10gig, could be 100gig, i don't know. so as i see it, the only way to back up a game is to FTP it. to run a back up from DVD as Wes suggested it's a simple matter of booting through the softmod and running the game but the standard PC can't read an Xbox DVD which is odd imo. i remember seeing a site with Xbox "homebrew" games. i can't recall the link right now, but i'm assuming i'd either burn to DVD and mount on Xbox or FTP it.... now i really feel like a nub lol. i've been a gamer for years yet never did anything with Xbox except frag a few friends in Halo

Get a copy of QWIX 101 and use it to back up your games by putting the game in the xbox disk drive and use QWIX to ftp in to the xbox D drive and boom start backing up.
QWIX can copy that way or if you ftp the xbox ISO to your desk top QWIX can back up a game that way as well.
