Hey guys,

I want to put a new hard drive in my softmodded xbox but I need help getting started. A few questions I need help getting answered are:

How big of a hard drive can I go?
Can I just buy an external hard drive and plug in via xbox to usb cord?
Is it possible to replace hard drive if I do not own a cd burner? (I cannot burn an .iso file.)

Any help in the subject will be appreciated. Thanks

You can have a 2 TB HDD I think. I know at least a 1 TB for sure.

You could get external but its not really worth all the work. It's slower load times and modding to get it to work. Internal is much better.

You can by using a program called chimp.

I'm not sure about softmod wise. I know mod chipped you can have 1 TB.

I've never done a softmod HDD upgrade myself.

Yeah on a chipped box, sure. I thought he was asking about his softmodded box. I have bigger drives in my softmodded boxes, but only a 60 and an 80.

As long as you run xboxpartitioner on the HDD you can put up to 2 TB HDD in a softmod but i like to keep them under 500GB just to keep from a big headache.

It was limited to like 250 or something till they made the LBA48 and then it was like 500 some GB's, then they started to use 32k clusters which got you higher capacity and then 64k clusters got you even more.

So yeah you was limited but not really any more.
