Posted: Tue Jan 20, 2009 11:25 pm Post subject: Still no HD video options with updated MS Dash
I recently got the HD cable for the xbox and I've tried all the solutions I've found to enable the HD options. I went through enigmah. I tried updating the dash with halo 2 but when it tried to initially connect to xbox live it said there was technical difficulties, but all my network settings work. I am aware that XBL doesn't work with the chip enabled, but I should at least be able to update through it right? I put the AID disc in and installed the 5960 dash and I still do not have any HD video options. When I check the dash version it says there are 2, one which is on K: that says it is 5838 (although it also has said that the version on K: is in the 4000's, which might be related to whether I boot the MS dash through my chip's menu or through evox's) and then there is another on D: that does say it is 5960. Am I not booting the proper MS dashboard version because AID installed it somewhere else? or might there be another problem? If anyone might know why this is I would appreciate the input.

Well the D:\ drive is the disc drive so that's the AID disc. I don't know what the K:\ this though, it might be memory card or something??? _________________

It says K: in system info in the MS dash. When I installed it from AID it was installing it to C:. I checked to see if there was a K: through FTP and when manually typed in, the directory exists but nothing is in there. Now when I boot the MS dash from the chip's menu I get the "xbox is in need of repair message" but when I boot through evox it works fine. This leads me to believe its located in 2 locations, but when searching I can only find it under C:

What error code do you get when you start it up without evox.
Also, do you mean in the system info in the msdash it has a K If so that's the kernal version. _________________

There is a big 05 up in the left corner if thats what you mean, and you're right, that is the kernel version. Now that it wont boot without evox i only have the 5838 kernel version. Also when I checked cable type in XBMC it was listed as S-video, when it definitely is not. Whether that relates to the settings not being enabled in the MS dash I don't know.
EDIT: I forgot that I had unlocked the HD which would probably be the reason for that code. So when I boot through the chip the kernel is 4034 and when I boot through evox it is 5838

The MS dash error is from the unlocked HDD and if you want to try the HD settings i would give XBMC a go, you don't need the HD set up in the MS dash since you are bypassing it any way.
What type of tv are you hooking to?

Locked my HD again and that issue is resolved, but XBMC has all the HD options greyed out. I am hooking into a philips 720p HDTV. Cable connections are good and correct.

There is no black box. What I bought was not the microsoft HD AV pack. I was under the impression that the first HD cables for the xbox required the box and that newer ones made by 3rd parties did not, but it does appear that after all these possible solutions not working that I do need that box. Are there cables out there (like the one that I have) that work without one of those boxes?

If you are using a PAL XBOX you will NEVER see HD OPtions..
You must use the Enigmah PAL/NTSC Video Selector application on your xbox to switch to NTSC mode.. Then you will see all your hD OPTIONS..
Enigmah program is available on AIDELUXE..
I had a similar issie with my PAL box.. I just hope your tv supports both formats..
I have an NTSC tv, but the first thing I did was open enigmah to make sure that was the setting, and it was. thanks for the tip though.

All i can say is mine works grate and was handed to me by a guy that pulled it out and had no idea what it was (I run XBMC) and it has been the simplest thing i ever installed.
You are not the first to say they have no HD setting open to use in there dash settings and all the others had the same cable as you.
I cant recall any of the posts ware this was the topic but i am sure if you dig around you can turn them up.

Well I appreciate the help guys. I've searched related topics for hours before posting on here and the only solutions people have come up with are using enigmah to switch to NTSC and updating the MS dash. I'm still curious why my kernel version is 4000 something when I boot from the xenium menu, and then 5838 when I boot from evox, even though it is located in only one spot on the hard drive.
