Hi.After much messing about i got chimp on my crystal 1.v xbox.
It runs as the guides say by starting with the green screen but when i try to telnet (which i had many problems getting my head round) it gives me the error message about port 23 and cant connect.
Can anyone give me any idea what can be causing this.
I've read lots of people get the same message while searching the web.
Any help would be great.

Try opening port 23 on your router. _________________

Hi...been playing with the setting etc. and haven't had any luck.
But when I altered the xbox ip address to one close to the pc address (as I do when ftping) i get a different message,it telnets the ip address but times out which is differnet from the port 23 message i was getting.
In the tut's it says it has to be a certain ip on xbox. Why is this?
Feel like i'm getting closer to solving this..

Normally, for some reason Chimp seems to set the IP address of the Xbox to be: 192.168.0.4

Yeah but i set the ip.Didn't know chimp set it automatic to that.
In that case would i need to set the pc ip address to near the xbox one, like ftp?
Which is the better Op System to use?

What do you currently have the IP of your PC set to? As long as its set to something in the range of: 192.168.0.xx, then you won't need to change it.
What I would do is run Chimp on the Xbox, then try pinging the IP address: 192.168.0.4, see if you get any response.

Hi,been a while since had any time to mess about with the old xbox and chimp/telnet thing........I've mastered the telnet connection.I had to redo the ip address on the laptop to near that of the xbox one and success.
I followed the instructions while doing the chimp prog and alls well upto the locking point near the end,it wont lock so doesn't seem to finish and when i try it in the xbox just comes up with the japness service screen.
Since search the net and my Seagate ST340015A hard drive seems not to lock.
Is the locking thing important?
I'm not sure what its for, seem to think it's something to do with going online with but i'm not.
Any idea's or help please.

The drive needs to be locked or you'll get a generic "Call customer services" yada yada message when you boot.
