Hey all

Right, so I have a 1.1 xbox I believe, which this evening i was softmodding with a friend who has done it before (I am a total newb)

We had issues getting our homebrew usb adaptor to work, when we realised the xbox splash screen (after the flubber) had a big evox logo on it, so I tried just booting from the aid 4.4 disk i just downloaded and it booted to it, so I guess the machine was previously softmodded (i got it 2nd hand).

It modded fine, and I have xbmc as a dashboard. I also have an 80gb seagate hdd that is compatible according to the list at http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list .

We opened up the xbox, attached the splitter, loosened the ide cable and launched chimp.

Chimp launches but outputs just a couple of lines of text to the screen the first 2 or 3 lines of the standard linux boot sequence. Then nothing. No menu, no sound of further hd acces, just those few lines.

I deleted chimp (vers 2.4) and reinstalled it from the aid cd i burned - same deal. Then I ftped the version of chimp from my friends softmodded xbox, also 2.4 and loading up on that machine, and the same result. Is there anything I can do to get it working?

I wondered reading your excellent forum if this is the issue that requires telnetting in and if i am stupid and have a 1.6 box, but i think not, i donlt get graphics glitches, chimp simply does not load fully.

I'd prefer to get chimp working, but else I have a pc i could try and use to clone the hd, but its mobo is sata not ide. I do have a lacie casing i got the 80gb drive out of, but I am not sure if this would work for the cloning as it would have to be hooked to the pc over a usb connection not internally, and I wondered whether that would cause problems (would the drivers on the boot disk i would create see the ide drive in the usb casing?).

All advice welcome!

so on the xbox flubber it says EvoX huh, soudns to me like mroe of a hardmod, is there anyway you can open it and look? If you can, it will be on the left hand side of the motherboard. Just post back and let me know what you can do on this matter.

Hello,
Like Hypnotix said, if its booting up to an Evox splash screen its probably hardmodded, with either a Chip or the TSOP has been flashed. If you want to upgrade your harddrive simply disconnect the original, hook up the 80gb one and boot AID - Installing whatever dashboard and apps you require.

Here are a couple of pics of the innards: Pic 1

and a closeup of the only odd looking item: pic 2

So if this is a hardmod I can just fit the new HD? I don't need to back up the eeprom etc and move it over to the new disk somehow?

(cheers guys btw)

Yeah, Thats an xecuter x2 modchip with solderless adapter, looking at the video chip and extra ram pads your xbox is a v1.1 to v1.3, no need to clone your harddrive, just put the 80gb one in and use AID to set it up ........
Put whatever dashboard you require on partition `c` - or just use the `modchip one click install` option on the AID disc.

EDIT : Infact looking at the heatsink and PSU connecter i`d say its 100% a version 1.1

Cheers guys! I fitted the 80gb and installed from aid 4.4 with no problems at all. I am now having fun with my shiny new(ish) modded xbox.

Great work on the site and AID!
