Hi,

I have a IDE disk just lying about, and I want to use it in my Xbox.
I've read all the tutorials on xboxhdm, but i'm not quite sure about one thing.

I have a computer with only SATA, I use an external USB case for my IDE hard disk.

Is there any way to make my hard disk ready for my Xbox apart from buying an old second hand computer that still has IDE-connections?

Or should I use Chimp instead?

+1, when I used it I had only sata but I have slots for IDE on the board. What I had to do was go find a old DVD drive also that used IDE and then connect everything ( HDD, DVD drive ) in order as it explains. If you dont have a spare IDE type DVD drive use chimp.

Chimp is his only option since he already said he has no IDE in puts:

If he had IDE ports at all he wouldn't be talking about buying a whole PC just for this:

It kind of sucks that MoBos are not adding an ide or two just for old apps and such but out with the old i guess. Rolling Eyes Very Happy

I thought he might have been talking about only having SATA drives in the PC. Lost of PC's still have a hidden slot for IDE even though the main/stock HDD and DVD drive are SATA. I just got the one I am on and referring to 3 months ago ( I know, obsolete the day it hits the shelf but still )

Just cause he has SATA drives from factory does not mean that he does not have a IDE slot.

But, you could be right for the sake of argumentation.

Since he didnt state that he didnt have ANY IDE slots I just assumed. I myself thought it would be easier to use a old IDE HDD through the external USB instead of stuffing it inside regardless of have that IDE slot. Embarassed

In my thought, if its a spare/extra why not make it a portable one Laughing
