I have never used FTP to do anything but transfer files between two machines in my apartment or from a PC to an xbox with a crossover cable, so maybe this is a stupid question, but here goes...I gave a softmodded xbox to a friend of mine who lives about an hour away, and now I need to put some files on it. So it should be as simple as asking him what the IP of the xbox is and connecting with an FTP client right? He isn't behind a router or anything, he just plugs the cable right in and sets it for DHCP, gets an IP and tells me what it is...but I can't connect to it. So it is possible to do this, right?

Im not sure how you go about doing it but i do know you can do it since this site had at one point a few xboxs that you could down lode from but you need more then just the IP address.

You mean access his Xbox over the web via his IP?
The theory is solid enough, as long as you know the username and password to gain access. Dunno whether you'll hit problems in terms of FTP access rights etc, but I suppose the best way would be to test it and find out.

Well I gave it a half assed try last weekend, but since it didn't work right away I thought maybe something was up. I figured it would be just as easy as doing it with a crossover cable. But we'll see.

Doing it via crossover would be much simplier I'm sure. Whenever I go out to mod/reinstall/undo I always take my box and a crossover with me.
