Hi all,
I'd like to be able to use a "loopback" install of Xbox Damn Small Linux, but only as an App through XBMC which I want to keep as my main dash. I've read http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-235.html but am not sure it applies to me.
Can anyone advise please?
thanks.

If all you need is to install Damn Small Linux just pop in the AID 4.30 disk and install it to your Apps, thats all there is to it.

sorry I should have said, I can't use the AID disc, I need to do this just FTPing files over to the xbox. I have the AID image I can take the files off though...

Hello, i think you need to edit the `linuxboot.cfg` to let it know u installed via loopback ............ Checkout the `read me file` frugal section _________________

Hi all thanks for the comments.
I can see it in the Apps section, although when I click it I only had two options to boot from, I think DVD and Ethernet.
So I copied the linuxboot.cfg file to the E:\ root as i'd seen somewhere then I got the option to boot from FATX. I thought this was the key, but then linux didn't boot, I got an error on the first line although can't remember what it is off the top of my head.
user1, what is the read me frugal section please which shows me what to do with the linuxconfig file ?
If you are FTPing the files in rather than installing it from disk, do it like this
Create a directory E:\KNOPPIX on your Xbox. Extract linux24, minirt24.gz and the KNOPPIX file (found in the KNOPPIX subdirectory) from the iso and copy them into this directory. You should be left with the following files:
Then run the default.xbe to boot XDSL. If you then want to peform a loopback install select it from the option in the Apps, Tools menu. _________________

Thanks for this - by how you say "if you then want to perform a loopback install...." does that mean that the method you've described is not a loopback install?

how about this, when u see those 2 options, leave it alone for a minute and tell me what u get Wink
It tries to boot what looks like a linux GUI and fails....
