Hiya, im quite the newbie at this, tho i have tried every hotswappingthingy i could find but still get this (doesnt matter if i have the dvd disconnected, it doesnt seems to give a f*** ^^)
and yes ofcurse i should have in some way made a backup of my eeproom to begin with, but since my xbox didnt even seem to setup an inteface towards my router i had no option but to go into "unknown" territory
now is there anyway whatsoever to recover/know which eeprom is used?
found an application which can unlock the hdd, but then it seems like it wipes it aswell... now if i used this hxxp://www.hddunlock.com/ , could i somehow get it to work without the original eeprom-file?
help is much appreciated

Welcome to the XBOX-HQ, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites we have to offer.
Chip it or build an eeprom reader, thats about all you can do.

it's a long shot but u could reformat it, and maybe be able to recover ur eeprom file from the hdd, with some recovery tools, but it's a very slim chance

anyone been able to unlock ST310014ACE with a firmware upgrade?
cant seem to find a firmware for that drive, tho i know it has worked with several other drives..
edit:
what if i use the hdd-unlock which wipes it all .. and then use the xboxhd "create disc from scratch", do i still need to lock the disc manually with the key from the eeprom for it to work with the xbox?

The only way to get an HDD to work with your xbox with out an eeprom from its mobo is a chip.
If you don't have a 1.6 i would get an X-2 chip and a solderless install header, that way you can get the HDD to work and you have a quick fix if the same problem ever shows up again.

never chipped a drive before so havent got a clue to where i could buy one in my region (swe).
http://www.hdd-tools.com/ tried the aff repair station diagnostic tool, tho it said the hdd was locked with "Maximum Security" and that they couldnt remove that ^^
so
1. somehow buy a chip and install it, how will this be able to unlock my hdd btw? ^^ (remember im new at this heh)
2. get my hands on an eeprom reader (dunno how since i cant build one)
3. buy a HDD Rock Tool (seems a bit overkill...)
"If you don't have a 1.6 i would get an X-2" and how do i know that? which version i got that is..

im still a bit in to this firmware reflash, as ive read has been able to unlock quite a few drives, just that the firmware for the ST310014ACE is nowhere to be found, so if anyone happens to have the means of getting their hands on the 3.09 firmware (for the mentioned drive) i would be more than happy to try it out

once you unlock it you still need the original eeprom to relock it/or another HDD to your xbox. why are you trying to unlock that HDD anyway? just wondering

The only way to get the eeprom bin on the hdd is to back it up but you put the wrong one on there, so even if you unlock it the eeprom on there is wrong so again your back to chip or eeprom reader.

ait, but then what exactly does a chip do in this case?
how does it unlock the hdd for one? ^^

With a chip you don't even need to lock the HDD, so you can use config magic or atawap or the chip (depending on what kind it is) to unlock it or just flat out over wright it.
The chip can even be used as an eeprom reader since it can read it right off the mobo.
