I know you can turn on the Idle Shutdown timer, but is it based on key imputs or a timer running off when the screen saver comes on or something else?
The reason I ask I'm FTP'ing a lot of files and don't want my Xbox just sitting there all night so I thought if I could figure out the true definition of what it does I could either use it or well not.

I dont know if i just got lucky with my XBOX or what but i have left mine running for as long as 72 hours (give or take 1 or 2) and never had a problum with it, adding fans helps allot.
I would guess the idle shut down is linked to HDD activity.

I had mine on all day yesterday moving 80gig worth of files via FTP and its stable as a rock. My DVR has a feature that if it doesn't see any activity on the remote for 2,4,6,8 hours depending on what you set and it will automatically shut down the output side reducing power consumption a lot. I just figured if it was an already included feature why not use it.
I'll start another fan thread to keep it on topic.
