I fried my xbox right after I added a big hdd and got it kind of figured out, but a friend gave me his unmodded and with a bad dvd drive. I'd like to use my dvd and hard drives. His is an older version xbox and has 4920 dash and I have SID 5 (but according to the guide I need the 5960 dash). I don't have any live games and my router is too far away to connect it. I was thinking of using my laptop and trying to create a bridge to get it online if I need to. I can't seem to find anyway to do it other than a live game. What about downloading it to a memory card or something?

Also any tips on putting in my hdd, I don't care if I have to reformat everything, I just care that it's a 500GB. Do I need to unlock it with xboxhdm or can I get the eeprom from the new xbox and put it on my 500GB hdd with a pc or can I just pop it in there and run SID and AID without doing anything to the umodded xbox?

Any advice for me? Thanks!

So you are trying to establish a new Xbox UnModded right? If so I think you need to look into getting the OS (Operating System) for the Xbox on to the HDD then everything should light up UnModded. can't you just take the Mod Chip from the old Modded Xbox and start over with SID or AID?

Sorry for being confusing, all I want to do is softmod the new xbox and use the hard drive out of my fried softmodded xbox. I don't have a chip for either and I know I can't just put the hdd in the new one, I just am not sure what/how to prep it for the new xbox.

What I'm thinking of doing is softmodding the new xbox and wiping the 500gb hdd with xboxhdm and then format it the way I did before by making the linux disk with my backed up stuff... but do I really need to do that if I just want to have it all clean. I just didn't know if there was a simpler way. I wanted to use it tonight but I didn't have enough time to work on it. I'll probably just do what I'm thinking after this weekend.

The one thing I really need to figure out is how to update the dash so I can use SID 5.01. I think I figured out I can use an older SID that doesn't require the new dash, then maybe update to 5960 with AID, or maybe SID can update it.

Does this sound like what I should be doing? Or are there any easier methods, I can't really seem to find any answers even though they have to have been addressed before.

In order to upgrade the hdd you will need to chip it or softmod it to get the eeprom.

Yeah that's my goal softmod and get the 500GB with XBMC on the new one. I'm going to try and NDURE I think. Someone over on Scenyx told me I can somehow use QWIX and extract the 5960 dash with Slayers so I'm going to see if I figure that out. My head is spinning, I wish I had a whole day to just spend on my xbox. Right now I'm going to try to figure out how I can get the MS Dash updated without a live game.

Why not just find a live game and do what you already know works.

I have a similar problem, I have two x box's both are softmodded, One has stock hard drive the other has a 250 gb with all my games backed up on it . I have both C,E,and eeprom backups of both machines. the Motherboard is failing on the 250gb and I would like to place the Large Hard drive in the modded stock xbox . what is the best method to accomplish this. would it be easier to move the 250gb and desolder the eeprom and place it in the stock xbox or can I unlock the 250 and re lock it with the other eeprom? what is the best plan. thanks for your Help.

Koots is right, do what works and use a live game then use sid3 to soft-mod and get the xbox eeprom, the last step would be to use xboxhdm to format and install the 250 using the eeprom backup you get from the soft-modded stock HDD.

As for chopsieze you can do the same thing but you will need to reinstall all the info on the large HDD since it will get wiped out using xboxhdm.

If you don't have one already this time around make a backup copy of the HDD when you are done. Wink

Easy way out would be a chip but with one xbox going bad your best bet would be to unlock the larg hdd before the bad xbox dies and use xbohdm to lock it to the good xbox.

I had a cd that I had made with xbhdmkr. for the 250 gb HD. so all I had to do was use the cd to unlock it, then make a new cd with xbhdmkr of the newly soft modded stock hd, and lock it. it worked great, Idk why I was so worried about it. thanks for all the Help. Jack

Ok, heres the simple way to do it...

First I Hope You have your Unlock Key for you drive from your Old XBox?
if So Unlock the drive using unlockhd or what ever tool U like.

The second thing is, For Softmod, Transfew your SID saves to the New XBox, Start the Game of Choice, I use Mech,
load up SID
Backup eeprom
FTP in and get the files

You are now DONE with the OLD drive

Gen the new lock disk, lock the drive, install it & Go
Done

Since Your NOT Building a New Drive & Your NOT using the old Drive, a NEW OS download is NOT needed...

Yes, if he has the unlock key for the drive.

Ever time I have softmodded a Box I always kept the DVD for it just in case, and then I just wrote the SN on the DVD.

So when The Same thing Happend to me, I did exaclty what i just said above.
Here is exactly what I would do
Load Your Favorite Game Hack & Backup the eeprom with SID
FTP the eeprom files and make a new xboxhd DVD

Now on a PC do The Following,
Boot the OLD Modded drive with the Original DVD,
Run xboxhd, use option 6,7,& 8 to Generate unlock code, Create Flopy, & exit.
Boot with floppy
check the drive status with atapwd (should be +++)
Unlock OLD Drive by running unlockhd
check the drive status with atapwd (a couple plusses should be gone)
Set The OLD DVD & Flopy You Made with it aside or just Write over the same Flopy with the NEW DVD in next step...

Leave the Drive Connected & Boot with the NEW DVD
Run xboxhd, use option 6,7,& 8 to Generate unlock code, Create a NEW Flopy, & exit.
Boot with the NEW floppy
check the drive status with atapwd (should only have 1 Plus)
lock OLD Drive by running lockhd
check the drive status with atapwd (should be +++ again)

Now Back to the XBox,
Install the Modded Drive & Say Yay!!!!
