I am having trouble soft-modding an Xbox with SID 5. I am using the Splinter Cell game save exploit. I copy the Splinter Cell game save and the SID installer files to the Xbox hard drive like normal. I fire up Splinter Cell and load the game; the screen goes black and the Xbox LED turns orange.
I just acquired this Xbox used, and it seems to work OK other than the DVD tray does not want to pop out all the time (it takes a little coaxing sometimes). As far as I know it has not been modded before. The normal MS dash comes up and is the most recent version. According to my research (based on the unit's serial number) this is a version 1.0 Xbox.
I have read that the orange LED means that something SID is looking for cannot be found, but I don't know what to do about it.
I have the SID installer and Splinter Cell game save files on a thumb drive and use a hacked cable for file transfer. As a check to verify the files are good I copied them to a previously modded Xbox and loaded them via Splinter Cell. It worked fine (the SID installer started up like normal), so I am confident my files are OK.
I have tried SID 5.0 and 5.01. Both behave the same.
I have successfully modded 3 other Xboxes previous to this using SID and not had this problem.
Any insights will be greatly appreciated!

it might be a corrupted file or not, because u said u successfully done it to other xboxes, The first time i softmodded an xbox it was my dads and i f**ked it up and I got another one and I softmodded it using the mechassualt exploit which was real easy and it was a xbox 1.0 version, so try to get the Mechassualt game and do the exploit that way (REMEMBER TO GET THE ORIGINAL GAME NOT PLATINUM HITS) u prolly already know that though.

Hello badger welcome to the XBOX-HQ, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites we have to offer.
Since you get the orange ring you might want to pop in a copy of AID 4.20 and try to reinstall the dash using the softmod dash installer.
