My question is that i have a old Maxtor 20g HD lying around and i have a softmodded xbox so i want to put that hd inside my xbox...so the question is what program do i need to run on the xbox to clone the stock HD and do i need to format the old hd and how?

You need to grab Chimp off of the AId disc in the application section. It only works for version 1.0-1.4. If you have 1.6, you need another guide. Let me know what version XBOX you have. _________________

The steps are the same for a 1.6 but you need to telnet from the PC to see it.
The chimp guide in the tut section has a link to a telnet guide in it.

I recently added Chimp v2.4 to the downloads section, so that members can get used to using the app.
There's a step by step guide on how to use it under my sig, a link to the telnet way (which you'll need) can be found there too. Let me know if you need any help.

i downloaded the chimp it put it on my apps folder in e; and i i tried to boot it from the apps folder and its not there so i went to file manager and tried to boot it from there and nothing happened.
ps i read the tut and i have a xbox 1.6 and i see the link in the buttom for the 1.6 tut but it doesnt work.

ok so i found the piece and i download chimp and extract it to my xbox than ftp its to my E: "Apps" folder on my softmod but it doesnt even show up and if i go to file manager i find it in the E: folder but when i click on it nothing happens.

Have you cleared the contents of your E:/Cache folder?
Sometimes temp files in this folder cause programs to not start or run correctly.

well i was reading around i i figured its cause i have a 1.6 and thats y im having problems so i was messing with my smartxx mod chip and it had a fiture to clone the HD and im hoping it will work, im gonna swap my softmod hd and put it on my chipped box and clone it

You can use the chipped xbox to make the hdd for your other xbox. You will need to ftp the eeprom from the xbox you want to make the hdd for and your chipped xboxes eeprom (also make sure that your chipped xboxes hdd is unlocked). You then will need to make sure the 20 gig maxtor is unlocked and put it in your chipped xbox. Boot up aid and format the 20 gig hdd then install the ms dash (and the hardmodded unleashx dash for right now).
Then reboot your xbox and take the aid disk out. Now boot into the unleashx dash. Use it to ftp to your xbox and put the other xboxes eeprom on the root of the C:\. Then make a folder in the E:\ of the hdd called apps. Then ftp config magic to that. Boot up config magic and select load eeprom from bin file (i believe this is it). Then go to your C:\ and choose the other xboxes eeprom. It will update your chipped xboxes eeprom. Now lock the hdd. Now you can go uninstall unleashx off of the hdd because you will need to softmod it later.
Now the new hdd will work fine in the other xbox. If you want to put the chipped xbox back its original eeprom then you need to ftp the old eeprom to your hdd and update your xboxes eeprom again using config magic. _________________
