Post subject: Install XBMC without formating all partitions
Reply with quote

Hi there,

you are my last hope. I've searched the whole internet and read hundreds of threads in this board, read tutorials, aid manuals, but without progress.

I screwed my chip-xbox with installed xbmc when I tried to update the xbmc. Something I did wrong and now while starting up the xbox theres a black screen with red letters which are telling me:

XBMC Fatal Errot
Invalid or missing <home> tag in xml - no skins found, or...

But I'm able to establish a network connection.

I 'm having a 160GB HDD, xbmc folder is on E: and all my games are on F:
But if I'm looking on the drive with FlashFXP, I cannot see the original partitions. There's no F: (omg, my games =/ ). But whith a CD like AID, I'm able to see all the files.

Ok, now my problem:

I wanna fix this mess, no matter how.
Shall I install a new dashboard? But I want to keep the whole partition F: . How can I install the dashboard, without touching other partitions'? (There's this Large HDD option on the AID and I'm anxious that he'll format my HDD).

I'm looking forward to your help!

Thanks,
IronFIst[/b]

Welcome to the HQ guy, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites.

Sounds like an EZ fix (i hope) go here: http://217.118.215.116/ and get the new build, unpack it and FTP the XBMC folder to the xbox HDD over writing the old build and reboot.

You will lose the dash settings but everything else should still be there.

Hi

thanks for your reply =).

But I don't think that's the solution. Because the whole story started after I decided to update my xbmc.

I downloaded this:
XBMC-SVN_2008-02-24_rev11787-T3CH.rar

But got confused with the different install-possibilities. So I decided to delete my e:/xbmc per ftp and replace it after that with the one in the package.
--> good bye ideal world!

now, do you mean, I should override this folder again,no, do you?

PROGRESS:

I made progess. I've checked the different log-files and found, that XBMC is grumbling about a missing reference.xml from the project mayam 3 skin. But there's no such file and also not on the aid-xbmc-version.
Now I'm trying to download another skin.

By the way: I can see my partitions with FlashFXP again.

Yeah just replace the XBMC folder with the new one sice it will have the working xml file and skins that the error is talking about. Wink

ahaa, I'm having a crappy xbmc? Okay, I'll download it right now!!! Very Happy

Edit 1: Hey, I'm wondering why the version on the AID-CD dowsn't have this file. This version should be ok, shouldn't it? Well, doesn't matter. I'll try the newest one and keep you informed.

Well it depends on what Ver. of aid you used, DJB (the maker of AID) put out AID 4.20 and one of the things listed in the change log was the about errors some users got when installing XBMC.

In the future I should it manage to read a tutorial more exact.

Problem is fixed Rolling Eyes

I didn't replace the xbe-file on my partition C.

But hey, after I solved the problem, I found the option only to install xbmc in the Application Section, I mean without this Large HDD thing. Great, AFTER this annyoing hours Wink

Once again thanks for your help Smile

Greetings
