Hello everyone, this place is definately one of the friendliest forums I've ever seen on the web, so I'm really hoping someone can help with a problem I'm having.
Several years ago a nice gentleman modded my X-box to the tune of 20 GBP (I knew nothing about how to do it and did not have the time to learn); I also had him install a new 120GB HDD. I understand now that he did a softmod. He has since dissappeared off the planet I think.
The x-box boots to Evox (dont know the version, can find out later this evening if needed) when there is no disk in the drive. Also it displays his avatar instead of "Microsoft" on bootup. There are lots of emus and apps installed to play with. With a disk in the drive when turned on, it bypasses evox I think, because it says "microsoft" on the boot up screen (as a stock xbox would).
Everything was well with the world until the other day, when I finally upgraded my 21" CRT to a nice new flat LCD panel.
I selected MS dashboard from the evox menu and from there changed the video setting from normal to wide. Loaded up my game (original Rallisport challenge) and it all went a bit t*ts up. The video was sort of blocky and interlaced with a bit which was out of refresh sync. I reset the machine, and tried to go to MS dashboard but it came up with error 13 with a big 21 in the corner (still in the garbled video), and a solid red ring.
Thing is, its fine playing games off the HD through evox, but trying to play games on bootup, or playing many disks through evox, results in the messed up video.
I've had a good couple of hours perusing this site and it seems I've selected an "incorrect" video setting, is this right?
Am I correct in thinking (hoping) this can be resolved by FTPing a new MS dash version onto the HD? If so please tell me where it goes, and which version I should use. I believe there are 4? is there a correct/ incorrect one for my PAL xbox, circa 2003? Also what the hell has happened?!! Will it ever be possible for me to display games in native widescreen (assuming I can sort this problem out first)?
If anyone is still here, thanks for reading this far, any help would be very much appreciated.
Regards.
PS presumably it is against the rules to ask where to get the dashboards from?

It's not against the rules to get dashboards. You can find them all on the new AID v.4.13 disc. You can download from here. Look for a post called AID 4.13 up, by DJB. He is the creator of the program. It has all the new dash's and emulators on it. There's also a link to the AID site at the top of the page here.

I don't know what to tell you about the TV problem. I"ve never had that issue. Hang tight and one of the guys will give you help.

Welcome to the HQ man, we hope you enjoy the site. Very Happy

Yeah man go here: http://www.aidtracker.com/ and get aid 4.10 and 4.13 (read the guide for updating the iso) and use it to reset the dash in C drive.

Next time change the video settings for evox not the MS dash. Wink

That last point gave me an idea. I change the xvox vid settings to default, then launched ms dashboard and what do you know, it worked!!! No error13 anymore.
It turns out that or some reason I cant have PAL 60 with widescreen enabled. Very odd because Im certain my telly supports PAL60.
Anyway, thanks for the reosonse, I wouldnt have fixed it without your help.
*Here, have a pint
