Hi all,
This post is a continuation of one that Wes has been helping me on the "how to use chimp 2.4" thread.
I am simply putting it here with a new title in case someone would have some additional input, in case I am indeed having a linux problem. No offense intended Wes! I figure someone will read this title instead of a chimp-title thread.
Here's a nutshell version of where I am:
Xbox 1.1, softmodded. XBMC from the AID 4.01. Everything I have tried to run so far has worked fine, though I have not run apps like chimp except off the AID disk (i think). This includes backed up games and the Unleased and XBMC dashes, as well as all the backup procedures on Unleashed.
Chimp is not running. Here's a post from the other thread - maybe someone will notice something that Wes and I aren't:
-----------------------------------------
What I did:
1. I deleted the cache on the E drive
2. deleted chimp
3. did not clear out the x,y,z folders, as I dont have them or didnt find them.
Then, through the FTP, I went into the AID disc which was in the xbox (XBMC was running) and copied two versions of chimp on to my desktop:
The first one is the one which is a run-option on my AID disk; the second one is, of course, the zipped one from the install apps menu.
After preparing the XBOX as you recommened (above), I put the "chimp" folder, extracted from chimp.zip, into my E:\Apps folder. I went to run it in my XBMX dash, and it once again froze on the linux copyright screen.
THen I deleted the cache again, deleted the just-installed chimp folder, and went ahead and put the #1. chimp folder into my E:\Apps folder. I ran it, and the same thing happened.
Am I making a grevious noob error by trying to install them like that? I mean, am I missing something? The AID puts the same folder with the same 4 files ( default.xbe; initrd; linuxboot.cfg; vmlinuz) in the apps folder. _________________ Dash: not sure

Hey.
You shjould always install it via AID and not copy and paste. The reason for this is such:
You know when you install something onto your PC (lets say FinalClouds Mod) and it installs to C:/FinalClouds mod
You then copy that folder onto someone else's pc, go to fire it up and you get an error. Reason being is even though it has created that folder, it has installed other files to different locations.
Its the same for chimp. The Xbox hasn't yet developed an "uninstall" like pc's, which can sometimes make removing apps quite tricky in places. If one of the files you can't see is corrupted, it may cause the problem you describe.

Yeah I tried that as a last resort, at the recommendation of Wes. But the first time i ever installed Chimp was using the AID installer. So there's something funny going on... _________________ Dash: not sure

If your box doesn't have too much on it, I'd wipe and start a fresh, installing Chimp as the first and only app to start with, see if it works then. I'm willing to guess it would.
Could be a conflict with another program using the same files perhaps. If you can afford to wipe, thats what I'd do, take it step by step.
