Anybody know of a good linux for beginner? Ive used it a little before but its just frustrating because i am so use to windows, wondering what others think is a good one to learn with, ive used fedora and mandriva but they seem to be too difficult for me, too many options lol..and too difficult to get them to see my ntfs partitions,. _________________

ive tried ubuntuu i know i spell it wrong read it out loud! it was okay, if u wanna try out linux i would reccomend reading a few manuals and as much as u can cos i ran it of a live dvd, then installed and kept getting frustrated, i couldnt ftp to my xbox it wouldnt accept the fact it had two hard drives in and the whole console interface is interesting if confusing and hard to figure out, my generally opinion on linux (until i try another distribution) is they are for geeks with waaaaaay tooo much free time. if u got the time and patients im sure linux has advantages like alll that lovely software u dont need to install but it made my life difficult!!! try ubuntuu i liked it cept for the console and complex things, it made my pc run faster as well, and i think having a linux disc is useful for installs of windows, i was installing windows crasshed so i booted up linux live sorted out what i needed to sort out (web browser runs of live) and then went on to reinstal windows, a very useful thing in the right hands!

ubuntu is by far the best and most user friendly to roll with its what i use on mylaptop, packages are easy to install media is easy to get going(mp3,dvix,soforth)
and install was easy but if you really want to try stuff out get live cds or boot live from a usb thunb drive on any windows based pc one of my fav. is D.S.L.(witch is DAMN SMALL LINUX) and if you dig deep enough you can find a ver. ported to run on the xbox,i have a copy somewhere. could send it to you (iso) burn it to disk and pop in your xbox boot right in to D.S.L. but its hard to use with a game pad, but you can mod a usb keyboard and usb mouse to work with it will load drivers to support both _________________

Its better to run DSL with a usb keyboard and mouse.
Useing the xbox remote works better with linxbox.

wikipedia has a ton of linux comparisons if you just go there and do a little digging. Fedora is really nice for first time users and so is pc linux. Live cds are the way to go until you get use to the operating system and then you can nest it yo your hd. Then best way to get into linux is to get a user friendly version that runs like windows and then join a forum or get a pdf manual to walk you through getting software and writing/modding it. _________________ RastaCalavera
