Hallo
Please carefully read my concern. I try to explain at as correct as possible.
I got a xbox 1.6. During using aid4.1 some installation went wron. So my xbox does not boot up correctly anymore.
It tells me Error 16 Service required
It does not accet either original disks nor anything else. So I cannot start ftp.
I managed to get the xbox dash files(92MB)
So i tried hotswapping harddiscs. I prepared a special linux kernel which can read fatx partiitons.
But At tahe moment I have some problems doing hatswapping. Itss quite difficult not making a hdd reboot during unplugging ide cable.
And when it seemd that i csuccedded swapping the cables. linux cdoes not recognize the hard sidisc. it tells me "error -16" cannot reset sda2.
Can anybody give me any hints ?
Are there any ooptinos left foor me ?
i suppose for evey xbox, the code fropm the xbox eeprom must match the hdd key code, which is unique. how can i get this code ?

If you cant get the xboxhdm to go you might want to think about chipping it.

What would be the issues about chipping ?
* What would it cost ?
* Where would I order ?
* Would it reveal a normal PC Bios - thus I could install linux starting at the bootsector ?

My situation is still, having difficulties hotswapping my xbox hard drive.
As it displays Service Error 16, i assume It won't go to idle mode.
I got a different plan. I have backuped the eeprom and its probably somewhere situated
in the E: hard drive, but i cant access it because the hard drive is locked. this is a Western
digital hard drive and i read you can use ATAPWD to disable the lock.
I read, that there exists a master password, which is WDCWDC.....
What about following plan:
* Unlock hard drive using ATAPWD
* recreated C: Filesystem to put correct files
* extract HD lock key from backuped eeprom
* recreate lock on hatd disc
* assemble xbox again

Chips run around 25 to 60 bucks and you can make the xbox boot to damn near anything you want.
You can google xbox mod chips and surch a few places for it or im sure you can find a few folks here on the site to sell you one.
As for the ATAPWD i have a post in here someware about it and it wold be worth a shot since the hdd is locked tight with the clock error code (16).

Thank you guys for all your replies!
My xbox works again. I found an excellent tutorial about xboxhdm, which exacly
explains, HOW to do hotplugging,
- exact sequence, exact timing.
I was able to see the content of my xbox again, and everything but the xbe files in the C: root directory was missing.. After restoring the files, everything was ok!
Thank you again guys!
