Nope, you don't need to create anything and certainly no soldering takes place. All you need is the cable.
Yep, nice and easy to upgrade your drive.. Simply use a program called Chimp. A tutorial for the program can be found underneath my sig. Do you know what version your Xbox is?

i dont know how what version it is, how can i find out,
using that guide linked to in your sig could i use that to put a bigger new HD in the xbox,

Yes you can indeed my friend. Chimp is a program designed to do just what you want, upgrade a HDD.
You'll know soon enough what version you have when you try to run the program. If you can see everything ok, then you have a v1.0 - v1.5 Xbox. If the screen goes green, then you have a v1.6 Xbox.

so i need a crossover cable and an ide hard drive desktop size and which supports ATA security
just a quickie, would i install chimp onto the hard drive once ive installed it, also i dont have nero but could i use some other burning software to burn the save games to dvd r, ive only got dvd rw so ill try them,

No it can be most any App that will burn DVD ISOs like DVDdecryptor.
Yes the Y-splitter you listed will work just fine

he means once he has the hard drive installed, and he could prolly make the the hard drive alot easier with xboxHDM its a hell of alot easier.

xbox hard drive maker, it allows you to throw everything on a disk, format it and build the hard drive from scratch after you have it already softmodded.
