No man you dont need a router just an xbox a crossover and a pc.
Get a crossover from any pc place or wallmart or game stop and plug it in to the xbox next to the rca input on the back and to your pc network input.
wes what part the tutorial say you don't have to had a router?? all it says i need a router and crosspver cable and even a extra thing called RJ45 network patch lead. and below is where i get confuse.
HOW TO NETWORK A XBOX AND A PC:
XBOX -->> PC (Directly connect from xbox to PC).
- You need whats called a cross-over cable.. This cable is totally different to a normal router network patch lead (RJ45).
XBOX -->> HUB/ROUTER/SWITCH -- >> PC (connecting through a active device)
- You need to be using a normal RJ45 network patch lead.. This is NOT a CROSSOVER CABLE.
SETTING UP FTP WITH DHCP ENABLED ON ROUTER or PC:
1. Connect your pc and xbox using either option above
2. Now turn on your PC/ROUTER
3. Turn on your XBOX with all cables firmly connected and make sure you have your dashboard network settings (EVOX, XBMC etc etc) to STATIC = NO *only evox dash..

Just set it up like this and ftp
SETTING UP STATIC IP ADDRESS:
Connect your pc and xbox using either option from above
With WINXP do the following:
- Choose 'Start Menu' and then Click on 'RUN'
- Type 'cmd' or 'command' into the space provided and press enter (return)
- When the command prompt appears type 'ipconfig /all'
- Write down all your pc info
here is a example of what the ip config will look like..
- If your PC has a IP ADDRESS of 192.168.0.1 and subnet 255.255.255.0 your xbox would be: 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.3 or any other ip address in the similar range.. It could even be 192.168.0.200 if you wanted.
- If your PC has a SUBNET MASK of 255.255.255.0 then your xbox should be exactly the same..
- Same goes for DNS Servers.. You have to copy down the pc info and put into your xbox.
anyway, so now you should have something like this on your network.

Its aslot easier then you think to make an action replay. Heres how to do it:
What you need:
Extra USB cord, Extra Controller breakaway cable (the one that goes between the controller wire and the system), Eletric tape, Wire cutters, memory card.
What to do:
Cut off the male end of the USB cable leaving about 6" of wire. (the part that goes into your compter). Cut the controller connector between the round connector and the plastic round thing. Strip the insulation back on both wires and you'll see 4 color coded wires on the usb end and 5 on the controller connector. The extra yellow wire wont be used (its for a lightgun controller). Strip these individual wires, and connect them. The easiest way to do this is by winding them together and covering the connection with electrical tape. Before you do the Next step is best to test your connections. Plug the usb end into a computer and connect a controller to the other end. If your computer detects new hardware you're good to go. If not check the connections you made again. After your computer detects the new hardware its time to finish it off. Using electrical tape, cover all the wires. Use alot, cause this holds everything together and protects it.
Now you can use this to connect a controller with memory card to your pc to transfer gamesaves from your computer to your xbox. You'll need the action replay software from the action replay website (google it, you can download it from the action replay website for free) to transfer gamesaves. You can also use this (and a driver) to connect an Xbox controller to your pc for gaming. _________________
