So I found an old 20GB that's lockable to tied me over until I feel like getting a larger drive. I run through the process, copy the files over, lock the drive, blah blah blah. In the end all goes well, I throw it back together, and boot it.

Well the Xbox boots...to the MS dashboard. It's not modded anymore? I tried to boot to Splinter Cell and reload the softmodder thingy, but it locks up when I select Checkpoints. I guess the files have been altered since I've already soft-modded and are no longer valid?

This isn't a huge deal as I should be able to pop the old drive in and be working again, but I would like a bit of extra storage...

Thats very strange man are you sure you copied all the files from E:\ over?? It should dtill let you boot to SID or whichever softmod you use from splinter cell since that is the only way you can remove the softmod etc.. I would try to copy the exploit files back on to the Xbox and try again cause that might be your whole problem.

Yes, all the files should of been copied from both C and E... Unfortunately I'm not near my friends modded Xbox so I can't recopy the files right off. I was going to try to unlock the drive and perhaps re-make the locking CD, re-copying all the files from the drive and use a freshly made EEPROM backup. Though I'm half tempted to wait as all should work if I simply copy the exploit files to the new drive and re-softmod the Xbox.

Well as I said I would try to copy the exploit files over again for sure as I've had the same thing happen a few times. BTW what program did you use to create the new HD??

The prog u used was xboxhdm to create ur HDD. Like said earlier the best thing u should do is copy exploit files to mem card and transfer the exploit files back to ur HDD and just redo the soft mod.

If he uses the chip tut he could just copy the stock hdd one to one and it should run just like the stock hdd did but with more space.

I copied Chimp to my old HD and started the backup, but I have no clue what the IP address is when it runs... It changes depending on the Dashboard/whatever I load. It wasn't 192.168.0.2 or 3 as mentioned in the guides I found nor was it what I had set in XBMC.

No biggiy though... I'm just going to re-softmod it when I have access to the modded Xbox. That's probably the easiest/safest thing to do.

I ended up realizing I basically had a "modded" and "unmodded" xbox here(IE the two hard drives) I just needed the memory card. So I rigged up a USB converter and viola! Old 32MB flash drive is now a memory card. I'm currently surfing Apple Movie Trailers using a USB keyboard Wink

Everything went smoothly once I got the files on the USB drive. I simply ran through the soft-mod process again. I've already tried loading a game from the HD and that works well. I'll probably upgrade again later, but this 20GB will suffice for now.

So your using your new 20Gb drive and a flash drive? Nice dude. You'll have enough space for a few games+roms.

The modded Xbox I used to first copy the files to softmod mine had a 60GB drive in it. Honestly, 60GB would do me just fine. For the most part, I prefer using CDs/DVDs or simply stream things over the network.

As for using USB, I currently only used it for transferring files over to softmod. I tried to find a memory card, but neither Walmart nor GameStop had them locally. So I have a 32MB USB flash drive I'm using. I'm just glad I didn't take my larger ones that I have school work on. The MS Dash formatted it right away when it saw it wasn't FATX!

I have a few external drives I may try using... Maybe I could stick the games on that 60GB and run them over USB. 1 hour load times, but it might work Wink

I feel that 300gb is just right all the apps and emus i can find 4 dashes and msdash and 84 xbox games with around 32gb left for what ever.
Keep my flix on PC and stream them, 300 is the way to go if your not trying to backup every thing you own to the xbox. Wink
