Hey everyone,
while I was placing bigger hdd,
I noticed that the IDE cable is a Standard (40-Conductor) IDE/ATA Cable and not the newer 80-conductor Ultra DMA cable...
that would mean that an xbox can work maximum at ATA66 (DMA-4),
right?
anyone a clue wether putting in a ATA133 (UDMA-6) cable would speed up things, or is the xbox's motherboard not capable of going faster? (maybe it works with PIO mode?)
I'm going to get myself a UDMA IDE cable, you never know it would make a difference

Since the MCPX™ chip is just a modification of the original MCP to work with the Xbox we can use it to determine the ATA speed which is ATA100. It is possible that the ATA speed was changed for the Xbox hybrid chip but without a white paper or engineer confirming it then the tech sheet below is more proof than the people who say it maxes out at 33MB.
(doubt they would modify the chip to make it run slower, what would be the point of that, lol)
definitely replacing my cable

You never know man, the chip builder may have had a fear of speed or might be a turtle.
But i dont think thats the case here.
Like i said gave me faster load times and hell its 3 buck cant beat that with a stick.
found a spare one in my desktop pc's motherboard box,
I've put it in place, though because of the spacing of the connectors it needs to be connected the other way around, where it normally goes into the motherboard, it goes now in hdd,
but it works, guess all those rules on how to connect your hdd aren't that strictly necessary, and that original xbox cable is probably also meant the other way around (unless it's specifically designed for xbox)
