Back again after a break from job travel and my currently modded xbox is showing some wear. The box is freezing up at random intervals usually accompanied with a digitized ticking noise from the right side of the box. Not sure if this is a chip set issue or hard drive, but I want to do a full back up of my HD in any case. I was previously successful at transferring data via ftp, but it seems like a slow process for the entire drive. So finally my question:
Is there a faster method? Can I pull the drive, slave it on an IDE ribbon or put it in a usb enclosure and do a simple file copy? Do I need some clone software to do an exact copy?
I need to do the back up, but I want to make sure I don't waste time. Thanks. _________________ Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum

I've got emulators and game backups on the drive (250GB). _________________ Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum

Your best bet is to backup the games and emus on disc with quicks and then backup the C and E drives to disc unless you got one more 250gb hdd setting around to make a clone on.

Like pezzar said a few posts back qwiks is good for it.
And if your hdd is about to burn up you might want to use xboxhdm to back up the info from the hdd.

Yeah man them games are huge.
Thats why as soon as i put a game on the hdd i use qwiks to burn a backup, takes some time but you never need to pull out the OG disc.

Takes me about 45 min. a game with a wire hookup.
Its slow but best to do it and get it out of the way.

I opened the xbox and found what looks to be some white corrosion on the circuit board to the right side of the unit. That isn't normal is it? could that be causing the xbox to freeze?

I'm pretty sure if you use Fat X Explorer you can stick the HD in your PC and do it that way. That clicking noise your talkin about is most likely the HD I've had it happen a couple times and its usually followed by the HD killing itself I'd back it up ASAP to make sure. _________________
