hello! i have been working up the courage (for proabably nearly a year now lol) to upgrade my xbmc build 2.0.0 to a stable one but have had trouble ftping applications in the past so could do with a little reassurance! my plan is:
get latest stable build
back up user data
copy over all files over xbmc and replace the default.xbe
before i do this could i get a little help!
whats the latest stable release as im getting a headache from google and tuts and all these tech releases which im not sure if they stable,
any precauctions i should take? im doing this on a softmod, 160gb hd, sid 4.5 aid 3.1, im tempted to just download the latest aid unistal all my mods and reinstal everything but dont want to lose my files on my xbox (uunless i get a big enough hard drive to back it all up!) i really want to do this but dont wanna fry my box taken so long to get it sweet!

Yeah you got the steps right just make sure you still have the SID installer and game save files on the Xbox before you do it that way if anything goes wrong you'll be able to get to the SID dash to fix it. Make sure that all the old XBMC files are gone after you put the new one on and you should be alright. All the new T3CH builds are stable they just have a few bugs which usually get worked out in the next release. _________________
wicked mate, cheers for the up, i always keep those files on my box and i even have a hard drive maker with eeprom back up stashed away for emeragancys gonna rename the files first before deleting so hopefully in the next half hour ill be ready to roll!

Good deal man its always a good idea to have a backup disk. I also always leave the SID files on too that way if anything goes wrong I can pop in Splinter Cell and FTP to it to fix it. I've fixed countless errors this way. Let me know how everything works out. _________________
the only thing is i have evoxdash.xbe in my e:\ drive and theres a default.xbe in my xbmc, when i update i just copy everything over e:\xbmc right? i dont have to touch e:\evoxdash.xbe do i?

i think the evoxdash is what boots up at start - i use my xbmc as default dash, when i first softmodded it i used evox on sid, then with aid i just installed xbmc onto the e:\
hooray updated without a glitch! how simple and easy was that??? dunno what i was worried about! spafe!

Good job man. It is really easy. That evox file is only there since that is what was installed when it was modded. I'd leave it just incase though. Don't forget to go through everything in t3ch's XBMC build theres alot of extras. My favorite addition is prolly all the added folder views and yo get to add the sources yourself so you don't end up with a bunch of extra crap. I'll Pm you with acouple hidden things I found on it if you like. _________________
totally dude! i love digging around and using all the little add ons, i only updated to 2.0.1 but im looking through the tech releases cos there are some cool additions! im trying to find sumthing like 3d icons like what avalaunch have, or at least how to change the standard game icons for coolness, my xlink kai is bomernee if u on it i gotta redownload it gonna get in some halo2 or sumthing before sunlight!
god damn windows, i cant instal kai (os problem) i have been having nightmares with my pc! why cant they release a "stable" windows?????

Yeah defenitly get the T3CH build when you get the chance. It comes with alot of nice scripts including the onr to download and install scripts from XBMC's script site. He also added alot of video and audio codecs and the weather function actually works now. Once you get it let me know and I'll hook you up with everything I've figured out on it. I don't know very much about v.2.0.1 since I went form 2.0 to the T3CH builds. I might get it though tonight and tear it apart to see what it can do. You can chamge Icons fairly easily I'll hook you up w/ an icon pack I have later and let you know how to make em work. I've only got my method workin on unleashx so far but I'm gonna get em workin in XBMC for ya and I'll PM you later with everything. _________________

right i got t3ch release : svn_2007-9-17_rev10259 and the one thing stopping me using it is i tried to imprt mc360 skin and i cant see any writing when i use that skin, i really luv my mc360 skin, but that release of xbmc t3ch is amazing its never moved so fast! i still have it on my hd so as i figure things out i will move to t3ch as im impressed as it is!
lol: The first step in updating for me is to rename the new XBMC folder too XBMC2.

Theres a couple different versions of the MC360 skin and I'm not sure which one works but I do know that one of em does. If you want my Icon pack I'll work on gettin workin with XBMC and I'll give it to you tomorrow in a PM and I'll write you alil tutorial on how to make them work. I'll also stick a file with everything I've found you can do w/ the T3CH build that I've found. _________________
