Alright guys, here goes. i just finished my 12v fan mod on my V1.4/1.5 xbox, because the stock fan has annoyed me since around 2003. I was so happy with the new silent xbox, until i noticed the temp, that is.

right now the cpu temp around 57celsius, and still climbing (not rapidly though). The fan is a 80mm Papst that i used to have in my PC, and i can see no reason why it wouldnt cool the Box properly. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks for helping me out.

Esben

Alright neway you can post a pick of the install so we can get a look at it and maybe see whats causing it? Also check and see if the fan in backwards or not I've done that a couple times myself and it causes the same thing to happen.

Make sure nothing is blocking the path of the air flow.

Thanks for the very fast reply. Heres a pic of the mod. Please, no jokes bout my dremel skills.

As you can see the blue wire is the one that is usually black, and the other one is in the middle 'slot' connected to the mobo. Im pretty sure the fan faces the right way, though not 100% certain. I noticed a weird thing as i went for a game of fifa to see if the Box would crash, i think the temp actually went down. But if i just leave it on idle it will continue to rise. This puzzles me quite a bit. I hope you can help me out.

Esben

PS i know it looks like the old black wire is touching something, but i assure you its not.

Wes:

Thanks, just checked it, and everything seems to be in order. Wif the stock fan the temp was around 30 idle, so im really confused as to what could be causing it.

Pretty sure you got her in backwards there man. There should b a lil arrow on the side of it some where and it needs to point in towards the Xbox also the open side of the fan the one without the lil spokes, should be facin out atleast on every fan I've ever used.

Also you could remove the metal casing in the Xbox that usually drops the temp down a lil but some xbox have a gound point from the mobo or psu, can't remember which and I'm not sure how safe it is to do that on those xboxes. I've always done it to v1.6's and they don't have this lil ground tab.

Smoke thing def works hand not so much cause you can feel air movin on both sides and if its set to low a speed you can't really tell a difference.

HEY GUYS!!!!

I wanna know more about your fan you put in there...

Amps
CFM

does the fan have a serial, model or any lookup info on it?

also what I did is cut the metal shielding out where the fan is to get better airflow...
