hello...i just recently softmodded my xbox, and i have already been playing halo2 through xlink, and i can ftp to my xbox from my pc. im trying to fingure out how to access the web using linksboks. however, when i try to connect, it says "cannot connect to network" or something like that. i figured it had something to do with my network connections either on my pc or my xbox, so i looked around for specifications on what IP to put where and all that mess. below is my best explanation of my setup and configurations. i hope some of you novice or pro xbox'ers can give me a hand. it would be greatly appreciated.
Local Area Connection 2:(Internet)
-(This connection is shared)
-TCP/IP Properties:
(Auto-obtain IP is checked)
if thats not enough information, please ask anything else to need to know. also, PLEEEEEEEEEEEASE help...THX...WASTEDFAITH =)

Try running a dhcp set up for every thing.

are you saying just keep it hooked up the way i have it using an rj45 and just select dhcp on my xbox or what? sorry i didnt understand

you have listed the same ip address for xbox and pc, if these are the settings u are using it wont work the IP address has to be unique and in the correct range. Switching to dhcp will only help if you have a dhcp server running (routers sometimes have these running as default)
try changing the xbox or the pc ip to 192.168.0.x (where x is a number other than 3 and not 0 or 255 )

ok...i changed the ip on my local area connection to 192.168.0.2, and it still wont work...is it even possible to use linksboks and my xbox with this setup? i read somewhere that its not.

your gateway isnt 192.168.0.1 the gateway is your pc as that is what is connected to the internet. Its a fair bet you dont have a dns server running on the pc too, so why is the dns set to 192.168.0.x
who did you get these settings from?

i got my settings from multiple places...mainly xbmc forums...could anybody give me maybe some settings to try....does anybody here have their stuff setup like mine??? i heard it is the most common setup for ftp'ing, x-link, and xbc...if so, i dont understand why its so hard to find a topic specifically on this issue...plz hlp....oh and by the way, NO, i dont have a router...i am using bellsouth dsl...i have a westell modem connected to my pc via usb and my xbox connected via ethernet... (REFER TO SHITTY [<can i say that here?] DIAGRAM AT THE TOP)

This really onley helps with ftp kai and xbc need more to set them up then just the right network settings.

still wont work for me...i seriously think you have to have a router or use a regular ethernet cable and connect straight to the modem from the xbox...im not sure, but at this point, i kind of want to convince myself that i dont have all the necessary stuff to run linksboks.

You do know that if your xbox is hooked right in to your pc you got to use cross over cable right?
And that dhcp wont work without a router or something to hand out the ips?

im using a homemade rj-45 crossover cable...i switched to wires to make it a crossover cable...like i said, i can use it to ftp just fine, and i can play on xlink also...i dont know much about dhcp, but i do know one thing...id really like to get this shizzit working...thanks for all the helpful replies thus far though...oh, and somehing a lil off subject...sorry...i have maptacular, blastacular, and killtacular maps on my xbox.however, i accidentally overwrote my mainmenu.map when i installed Halo 3volved. now i want to be able to play all my maps and lall i have is lockout thru foundation. i still have all the maps on my xbox, but now i just have the regular mainmenu.map...i cant find the (working) patches anywhere...i was wondering if maybe somebody could send me a link (or send me their) patched mainmenu.map or just the patches themselves....
