I'm uploading video files to the xbox, my laptop is running wi-fi, the xbox is connected directly to the router.

I know i can just plug the laptop directly to the xbox, but i want to see how fast wireless is first.

but i'm only getting 1.3MB/s, whats the fastest you've gotten wired and wireless?

All I do is transfer wireless. It is all based upon your router and wireless card. For instance I used to have wireless b and I would get about what you are getting but once I upgraded to wireless g I transfer at about 2700 kbs

If you plug your notebook into your router when you transfer stuff you'll go at about 10 mb per second.

nope. It sounds about right. Wireless signals are limited by how far you are and if it has to go through walls and stuff. If you want to speed up your connection move your computer closer to the router.

i just wanted to see how fast wireless could go, good point though

oh right yeah, the other reason is that the cabled connection knocks out my wireless if i connect directly to the xbox, but i guess through the router it'll be ok

If you connect through your router with a cable, your wireless will still be active. Not that it really matters since your directly connected anyway.

my wireless stays active, it just loses the ability to connect to the internet, IF i connect the xbox direct, heres the setup where it doesnt work:

Laptop connected to internet/router via wi-fi
Laptop connected to xbox via crossover cat5
xbox obviously not connected to router

When i go on IE, it goes 404 because it tries to get internet access out of the xbox instead of the wi-fi. not sure how to prioritise one connection for internet and the other for ftp

im no expert, but...

802.11B has a max wifi rate of 11/mb signal
802.11G has a max wifi rate of 54/mb signal
Unless you get a Super G then they goto 108/mb/s or 125/mb signal

the actual speed will vary on walls, and other RF interferance like microwaves, cellphones, cordless, phones, and other such Rf devices transmitting/receiving in or around the same frequencies of 2.4Ghz....

I myself have a laptop, yet I prefer to use the wire when doing hefty DL's or transfers to the XB.....Because the wifi is les superioir to wire and is much slower...

I wish to use a true constant flowstream of actual 100/mbs versus
a decaying wifi signal that varies from 1/mbs to 108/mbs but is not vary stable and has vulnerabilities of signal loss..

I like going to http://www.bandwidthplace.com to check out what my siganl is doing rather than trust the wifi cards monitor...

When you say 11mb is that 11 megabytes per second or ~1megabyte per second?

Cause i've gotten around 1 - 1.3Mb/s
