Hey there folks -
Just want to start off by saying what a great site, I'm excited about all this.
Background - I bought a prechipped used box off of CL so I wouldn't have to learn about this, or invest too much time. My goal was really just to have XBMC run flawlessly, and be able to run my game off the HD.
When I rip my DVD's to the hard drive using dvd2xbox, only about 20% of the games will boot. Otherwise, they will hang forever or dump to the dash.
When I attempt to install XBMC, it won't run. It just hangs forever. I have tried multiple different versions/installs.
I have deleted the contents of the CACHE folder on the HD.
I have it networked in my house, and can FTP with no problems. I just can't do much else.

Chipped. I just found out which one late last nite.
I was told it was an X-CHIP.
Cromwell BIOS.
Not sure on the hard drive.
Now that I know which chip it is, I have decided to use the latest
AID package that was recently released and start over from scratch with a format.
Is that the path I should be taking?

Cromwell Bios is just a standard bios. You need a bios like the Xecuter5032 flashed on your chip before you install AID. _________________

x chip or xecuter 2 or 3
Cromwell Bios is a tool bios so you can flash your chip with a bios to run homebrew apps and your backups that you own

It is an x-chip, not an xecuter.
I guess I still don't know what the BIOS it has then, I just thought I needed Cromwell, thanks for clearing that up.
As it stands, it boots at the moment to the dash but really only runs about 20% of the files on the HD. So it must have the BIOSes loaded, but the dash won't ID them when I run the included BIOS identifier program.
Would the AID package v 4.02 contain the needed hombrew BIOS and dashboard for me to run XBMC, other homebrew, and games off the HD (if I were to start over from scratch)?
That way I could do everything I need without leaving the couch.

Uh oh....
I burned an AID v4.1 disk, booted into it.
I formatted the drive undre the format large drive option to delete everything.
I boot up in and get the evo-x logo, and the x chip logo on the startup screen.
It then blinks and gives an error 13, and says "XBOX needs to be serviced". I am a genius.
Time to search the forums, as I'm sure I'm not the first.

Thanks.
I think I've got it all set up now. I'm using XBMC as my dash. It looks awesome.
Now all I have to do is research exactly XBMC works.
Thanks for all the help, time to continue perusing the forums.
