I don't even know if I spelled soldered right, that tells you right up front that I have no experience in it. Okay here is the deal...I have a version 1.1 xbox..the one with the little fan on the motherboard. I want to install a X3 solderless chip set in it but unfortunately the input area is soldered in. I was told microsoft did this little job to prevent people from putting modchips in it. I have no experience in soldering whatsoever and a book I am reading says I have to remove the solder from the input area. How the heck do I do this and what equipment do I buy? I have seen this thing advertised on tv called coldtouch or something to that effect soldering iron that supposedly can be used by beginners easily. Like I said before I really need advice on what kinda soldering kit I need to get and how I remove this solder from the input area. Thanks for all your help and I am looking forward to getting this solder out!!!

you will need a good soldering iron 15-25 watt with a fine tip
resin cored solder 1.0mm or smaller
desolder brad or sucker (brad the better)
wet sponge to wipe clean solder tip after each soldering point
and a flux pen
read as much as you can
read install guide for x3 www.team-xecuter.com
Google-yahoo desolder and solding to lean as much as you can
you may as well do the pinheader install as your got the soldering iron in your hand anyway much better install
and take your time

Since soldering isnt as easy as it looks, you'll definatly want to practice on something that isnt important.

Hmm if it is as complicated as it sounds I might want to take the motherboard to a friend of mine so he can desolder the inputs. As far as the X3 chip goes that is no worries thanks to the masterful teachings of Wes Very Happy . Anyhow thank you for the input and I will let you know how it turns out. Very Happy

I would go that route if you've never done it before. Maybe ask him to teach you while he's doing it. I did alot of soldering when I was in school, but even with my experience I wouldnt trust my skills now.

Laughing Im just got a 1.1 as part of the rouch box sail and i got the same thing to do.
Getting the solder out is the ez part if you use the brade to remove it.
Be nice if you could just heat up the solder thats thare and sink the pin header in to it.

Oh man the flux is nice keeps your tip clean and seems to help so you dont end up with that huge ball of solder on the tip that just wont drop. Very Happy
