Anyone know a way to mimic locking a hard drive? In my brilliance when ordering a new HD for the xbox, I forgot to check if the drive was lockable... duh. Anyone know a way around this (aside from buying another new drive)?

Hi soreros,
You should be pretty right mate..
Have you got the DRIVE YET??
What was it etc etc.. Maybe someone will already know the info..
I never look when i buy LARGER HDD's i just make sure its WESTERN DIGITAL, SEAGATE etc etc.. Just the normal ones i use..
There is a webpage somewhere that lists all lockable hdd's..
Maybe i should try to update xboxhq with that info.

I always use a particular resource that lists HD's that have been specifically locked. I have submitted it before, but I still have to import all of my old bookmarks from when I recently restored my PC.
Unfortunately, I know of no way to mimic or fooling a HD into thinking it's locked.
What is the HD model number? What programs have you used to try to lock it.

The drive is a Maxtor 4R120J0. It's an older one, 5400rpm, and it's already installed. I tried ConfigMagic first, then I even hooked it up to my PC and tried using UnlockX - both progs reported the drive as unlockable - guess I'm SOL. Well, actually Micro$oft is SOL because now I definitely won't be subscribing to Live and playing purchased games on it. Maybe they shouldn't assume that all hobbyists are thieves....

Very true. You could always play XBC and in the interim try to find either a different HD or a used machine for XBL purposes...
