I probably should have made this a separate post before, but I didn't so here it is.

If you mod a 1.6 and then after you put it together don't be surprised if you have NO power. Don't think you fried the power supply.

MS is using a 2T resistor that controls the standby action of the xbox. Standby is the state your xbox is in when it's plugged in, but powered down. What happens is the resistor blows just from removing the mobo, and then you can't turn the machine on.

To fix, just remove the resistor on the lower left hand side of the chip that is labled Xyclops. Replace it with a 2A resistor.

They tend to be more tolerant than the 2T's.

Email me at sales@themodgod.com if you need help.

Shocked I'm glad that didn't happen to my 1.6 box. I would have thrown it out and read this post after it was too late. I just did my first mod (and it's a success) with a SmartXX chip that I got this Saturday.

How do you like the SmartXX chip? I am curious as I just ordered a few and am starting to offer those chips to my customers. Did you use the 1.6 LPC Rebuild PCB?

Do you have any good links for manuals/guides for 1.6 and other version installs?

I haven't installed one on a 1.6 yet. Once I get a few installed I am going to make some tutorials for this site.

is there anyway to get around this like once the xbox is unpluged try switching it on to drain the last of the power first? sounds like one hell of a trick ms pulled this time, gotta feel sorry for anyone caught out by it.

Sorry I missed your post. Acutally, I don't know. I have often thought of that and I make sure I wear a wrist strap too, but what you have to understand is this mostly happens when people remove a 1.6 from one machine to install in another such as a replacement mobo, or they buy a tricked out case.

I have been randomly emailing Ebay members who have just purchased 1.6 mobo's from ebay and a high percentage of people are having this happen. I encourage anyone who sells a 1.6 mobo to just take a moment and change the resistor to the more tolerant one just to assure the person on the other end doesn't have to jump through hoops.

I have seen so much negative feedback because people just don't realize that this is going on. When I find out any more on this subject, I'll be sure to add to this post.

you dont have to take out your mobo to put a chip in right? Cause I'm doing a bulk order with a bunch of friends and I dont want them freaking out... and I dont want to solder all that back in...

You have to take the 1.6 out to do the LPC rebuild.

I think there are some chips that claim to be solderless, but not sure how they work on the 1.6.

If you are using any pin header type of install, the mobo HAS to come out.

No.

Same sympton, different cause. On the one board I'll never know though because I got rid of it as a dead mobo/hd combo. The other one is here, but still no joy.

And the one machine you sent me was a 1.2....it looked like you took a hammer and chisle to the D0 area. There's no fixing that one at all. You must've wiped out at lest 20 traces.

As I saw in a post on another board:

You Sir, are a moron. Get a heart you cheap bastard. You can find any download for free on the internet. You aren't the first to complain either. You are one of many morons, I wouldn't be surprised if you had a shot at the crown. Lazy a$$

Sorry everyone (except guyherbert), I normally don't flame and get into it. but, I just had to deal with an idiot driver on the road, so I am all fired up.

Hi guyhebert,

I dont appreciate your reply... Sad

We all have gone to alot of effort here to keep our VIP community up to what it is.. It costs alot of money to host such a large site since we have alot of members and so, we cannot offer all downloads for free since they are quite large..

If you would like to start your own site however and let me link all our memebrs to your website that would be great! lol

I flamed and apologized in one thread, doesn't that neutralize it??? Wink

And yes, who has very delicious pizza without a few "brewskis"? It just wouldn't be the same.

My question is, why did he choose this thread. I would have started a new one, get things done right. An Attention getter. His game was off.
